TCU doesn't want a Wisconsin rematch

TCU put a nice bow on their undefeated season with a victory over Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl, but it seems that one victory over the Badgers is enough for the Horned Frogs for now. Apparently UNLV wants out of its season-opening date with Wisconsin on September 3rd, and an unknown third-party then contacted both Wisconsin and TCU with the prospect of the two schools kicking off 2011 against one another.

It was a matchup that Bret Bielema was all to eager to rekindle.

"I was contacted a week and half after the bowl game about the opportunity to play TCU in our opener," Bielema told The Big 1070 in Madison. "It was something that was going to be broadcast and made a big deal, it took me all of about point five seconds to say yes."

Unfortunately for Bielema and the Badgers, TCU wasn't as excited about the idea. Though not because they feared playing Wisconsin. TCU AD Chris Del Conte confirmed that he was contacted about the rematch as well, but turned it down since there would be only one game and it would be played at Wisconsin.

"We already have Baylor for our opening game," Del Conte said. "A team supposedly Wisconsin played last year doesn't want to go back there. A third party was shopping the game around to other teams. I have no interest in playing a one-[time] game."

Considering that TCU has already had its game against Boise State moved to Boise, I can understand why it wouldn't want to add a trip to Wisconsin to its schedule. Those would be two incredibly tough games to start and finish your season with, and if TCU can't get consideration for a national title when it goes undefeated, it isn't going to a BCS game with two losses either.

Though Del Conte did say that he'd make an exception for Ohio State. Seems he's still a bit sore about E. Gordon Gee's "Little Sisters of the Poor" comment.

TCU doesn't want a Wisconsin rematch

TCU proved their point, and in the following season, they are heading to a BCS conference (2012). And TCU would play anyone, but it has to be fair and not one-sided. They already scheduled LSU home to home game for future seasons. Man up Wisconsin, you lost the Bowl game, period.

TCU doesn't want a Wisconsin rematch

the Buckeyes have to schedule BCS conference traditional powershouse teams like USC, Texas, Miami, and Virginia Tech.

News flash.  USC sucks.  Texas sucks.  Miami is average at best.

TCU doesn't want a Wisconsin rematch

It's strange how the TCU AD would make an exception for Ohio State.  I am an OSU alum and I was embarrassed about the comments made by the bow tied geek who  knows nothing about football President Gordon Gee who has walked away from Ohio State in the 80's only to come back when the getting was good.  It's also agreeable that the AD would make an exception for Ohio State as a victory over the Buckeyes is much greater than a win over Wisconsin as one is a conference contender the other is a national title contender, no offense to theh Badgers but it is historical significance.  Fact is the Buckeyes probably are not interested in a home and home with TCU as the Horned Frogs have been in the BCS picture the past two years with Andy Dalton and there is nothing guaranteed the Horned Frogs will be great next year and Ohio State needs to play top competition in their home and homes.  Four years ago Ohio State finished up a home and home with the University of Washington a powerhouse years ago but no more and it was an embarrassing to not have a top team on the non-conference schedule so that is why the Buckeyes have to schedule BCS conference traditional powershouse teams like USC, Texas, Miami, and Virginia Tech.  As for playing Wisconsin it would be wise of TCU to step up to the plate and play the Badgers because going on the road and winning is what will launch TCU to greater heights and more respect which could earn them a BCS title game shot the next time they go undefeated, if they can go undefeated.

Man up, Wisconsin. Play TCU at Cowboys Stadium

The reason this deal didn't happen is because Wisky was too chicken to play a return game in Texas.

Sorry, Badgers, TCU isn't a low-rent team like UNLV (the team trying to back out of the game in Madison); TCU has earned the right to not have to play bodybag games in Big Ten stadiums anymore.

Either you play TCU home and home, or you can just schedule a MAC patsy like you always do.

TCU doesn't want a Wisconsin rematch

TCU doesn't need Ohio State or Wisconsin to prove it's worth. TCU beat Wisconsin.

Exactly.  If they had lost to Wisconsin and turned them down for next season, it might be a different story.  But they beat them....

As for Ohio State, who cares?  Since when does everybody have to play Ohio State to prove themselves????

TCU doesn't want a Wisconsin rematch

Go Frogs!! the BigTen should play each other first before they worry about non conf games. Or split the BigTen in half like SEC does and have a conference championship. Wisconsin is not a powerhouse every year...the BigTen is Ohio States sandbox! very simple Wiscy schedule 2 games home/away and then you get TCU.

TCU doesn't want a Wisconsin rematch

This a money issue. TCU gains very little with a single away game - but a home and home? When you are talking about a small school with 20% the enrollment of Wisconsin, a much smaller stadium and a small network deal, they don't have the cash to be throwing around that the big boys do.

TCU doesn't want a Wisconsin rematch

1998:  7-5-0

1999:  8-4-0

2000:  10-2-0

2001:  6-6-0

2002:  10-2-0

2003:  11-2-0

2004:  5-6-0

2005:  11-1-0

2006:  11-2-0

2007:  8-5-0

2008:  11-2-0

2009:  12-1-0

2010:  13-0-0

Hardly a two year flash. And let me remind you TCU won the Southwest Conference in 1994 the conference broke up in 1995.

17 conference championships and 2 national championships is hardly a two year flash.

Lets see Wisconsin how many conference championships and national championship won since they started playing football...12 confernce championships and no national championships since the existance of the program.

Just pick up the phone and talk to TCU AD if you want the game.

TCU doesn't want a Wisconsin rematch

TCU is hardly an elite program. A two-year flash in the pan playing in a horrible conference. One tough game a year and a major bowl. Why would they want to mess that formula?

TCU doesn't want a Wisconsin rematch

Whose crying? all I hear is Wisconsin who we beat and Ohio State who we called out. "Ohhhhhh, we lost to TCU" - yet all Wisconsin needs to do is pick up the phone and schedule the game. A 3rd party calling 50 schools to replace UNLV from Wisconsin's schedule and Wisconsin coach saying, "yeah, I would love that game" on the radio is not an invitation. Call your AD and help TCU arrange it's schedule so that they can play Wisconsin.

TCU has many options other than Wisconsin's game under "Little sister of the poor" terms. Big 10 is not the end all be all to get to a national championship game. TCU will play Wisconsin just pick up the phone and stop all this talking.
