TCU doesn't want a Wisconsin rematch

TCU put a nice bow on their undefeated season with a victory over Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl, but it seems that one victory over the Badgers is enough for the Horned Frogs for now. Apparently UNLV wants out of its season-opening date with Wisconsin on September 3rd, and an unknown third-party then contacted both Wisconsin and TCU with the prospect of the two schools kicking off 2011 against one another.

It was a matchup that Bret Bielema was all to eager to rekindle.

"I was contacted a week and half after the bowl game about the opportunity to play TCU in our opener," Bielema told The Big 1070 in Madison. "It was something that was going to be broadcast and made a big deal, it took me all of about point five seconds to say yes."

Unfortunately for Bielema and the Badgers, TCU wasn't as excited about the idea. Though not because they feared playing Wisconsin. TCU AD Chris Del Conte confirmed that he was contacted about the rematch as well, but turned it down since there would be only one game and it would be played at Wisconsin.

"We already have Baylor for our opening game," Del Conte said. "A team supposedly Wisconsin played last year doesn't want to go back there. A third party was shopping the game around to other teams. I have no interest in playing a one-[time] game."

Considering that TCU has already had its game against Boise State moved to Boise, I can understand why it wouldn't want to add a trip to Wisconsin to its schedule. Those would be two incredibly tough games to start and finish your season with, and if TCU can't get consideration for a national title when it goes undefeated, it isn't going to a BCS game with two losses either.

Though Del Conte did say that he'd make an exception for Ohio State. Seems he's still a bit sore about E. Gordon Gee's "Little Sisters of the Poor" comment.

TCU doesn't want a Wisconsin rematch

SeetheBS,

Are you F'ing kidding me?  Just because TCU beat ONE great team in Wisconsin (only by 3 points mind you) they should be given loads of respect?  Ok.  Luster with the Big East?  Really?  They don't have a shot in hell at making the NCG even if they do win the BE.  C-USA rated better than the BE at the end of the season along with the WAC and MWC.  The Big East is a horrible football conference and winning it doesn't mean s!@#, just ask UCONN.  Sure, you get to go to an undeserved BCS bowl game, but you'll never see the Championship.  How long have you been following college football?

TCU doesn't want a Wisconsin rematch

How would playing Wisconsin give TCU nothing to gain???  They went undefeated last year and didn't play for the national championship... Seems like they have a lot to gain!!

Dalton is gone, but that defense isn't -- they could compete in Madison. I think the Badgers would win, but it'd be about a 24-14 or 24-17 game.

Losing the Rose Bowl broke my heart, but the Badgers -- who had (I think) quite an edge in total yards -- did not maximize their scoring opportunities, and that led to the loss.

We had five Red Zone possessions and they had three; and we lost. When that happens, you (Wisconsin) don't deserve to win.

I think if we played them 10 times (with last year's teams) we'd win six or seven, but that's why they play the games...

TCU doesn't want a Wisconsin rematch

"When a team like TCU clearly declines to play a team from a power house conference they should not be allowed to play for the National Championship and better not complain about it."

Best comment of the day. If we aren't going to have a playoff at the end, then the above holds true.

The last time I checked Baylor was in the Big 12. Is that not a power conference?

TCU doesn't want a Wisconsin rematch

The point is that TCU already has a commitment to go on the road to Baylor the first game of the season, a task as I already mentioned that no national champion outside of LSU playing a conference game has done in a decade. There is also no guarantee that Wiskey is better game Baylor when all is said and done either. I don't see a need for TCU to abandon their scheduled game in order to re-prove themself against a team they just beat and who would have a decided advantage due to home field in the first game of the season where anything could happen?

TCU doesn't want a Wisconsin rematch

LSU at Mississippi State was a conference game. The Virginia Tech games weren't true road games and the other games weren't in the last 9 years. Move the game to a neutral site or play a home and home and TCU would be much more eager to play. As it stands they have nothing to gain and everything to lose.
