Harvey Updyke's lawyer wants off the case

The country's most famous tree-killer, Harvey Updyke, may have to find himself a new lawyer. When Updyke was arrested for poisoning the trees at Auburn's Toomer's Corner the court appointed him a lawyer, Phillip O. Tyler. Well, Tyler doesn't really want to handle the case and he's filed a motion to remove himself from it.

Why? Well, Tyler's current law firm represents Auburn, and he's a part-time professor at the school. He also lives in Auburn and is a fan, saying that he has "numerous personal and family ties to Auburn University."

Which would be what we in the business call a "conflict of interest." I can only imagine the type of defense a lawyer from Auburn would craft for an Alabama fan who may have destroyed Toomer's Corner. It would probably be something along the lines of standing in front of the jury and screaming "He did it! He killed the trees! I urge you to sentence him to death!"

Which would likely please the Auburn fan base, but it wouldn't reflect too kindly on the American judicial system.

Exactly how are we supposed to get out of debt when the govt spends more money (to the tune of 1 trillion dollars) than they take in.  Obama's fiscal policy is stupid. FYI the House and Senate were controlled by the Republicans when Clinton had all those "surplus"years. The House controls the money debate then they let the Senate agree or not.  Then towards the end of Bush II 2nd term Democrats controlled the House.  It is the Democrats that are funny

This is why I love republicans.  So lets get this straight.  Clinton takes over an the economy is dead in the water (thanks to Bush I and that fraud Reagan and his "Reaganomics"-- which borrowed the US into unprecented debt!!).  In 8 years we have the largest budget surplus in the history of the country.  Then Bush II comes in and in about 5-6 years we have the largest deficient in the country's history (yes even larger than the one Reagan and Bush I put us under).  YET its Clintons fault!!!  Sure I get it.  And then if Obama somehow figures out how to get us out from being buried (not confident thats happening), I am sure that will be due to Bush II correct??  Republicans are so funny!

Every article published about this story should include the fact that this psycho named his DAUGHTERS Bear Bryant and Crimson Tide.  That's just hilarious and very sad.

Umm, 'lil jeffrey...easy on the jokes until you learn to read AND comprehend. The article states the attorney, Tyler, is a professor...not the Tree Torturer. Where you from, buddy?

I believe the lawyer is a professor at Auburn, unless that is who you are calling an inbred. Being that they are both from Alabama, that would be an appropriate title for either. Still a very funny post. I didn't know you could major in moonpies at Auburn. It is too late for me, but I know where my kid is going to college. Yeehaw!
