Harvey Updyke's lawyer wants off the case

The country's most famous tree-killer, Harvey Updyke, may have to find himself a new lawyer. When Updyke was arrested for poisoning the trees at Auburn's Toomer's Corner the court appointed him a lawyer, Phillip O. Tyler. Well, Tyler doesn't really want to handle the case and he's filed a motion to remove himself from it.

Why? Well, Tyler's current law firm represents Auburn, and he's a part-time professor at the school. He also lives in Auburn and is a fan, saying that he has "numerous personal and family ties to Auburn University."

Which would be what we in the business call a "conflict of interest." I can only imagine the type of defense a lawyer from Auburn would craft for an Alabama fan who may have destroyed Toomer's Corner. It would probably be something along the lines of standing in front of the jury and screaming "He did it! He killed the trees! I urge you to sentence him to death!"

Which would likely please the Auburn fan base, but it wouldn't reflect too kindly on the American judicial system.

Harvey Updyke's lawyer wants off the case

Does anyone else look at Updyke's picture and think "Brett Favre in 10 years"?

Harvey Updyke's lawyer wants off the case

Rumors of Toomer's Trees' demise have been greatly exaggerated. Let the trees die before we bury them. As of today, authorities are still hopeful that the trees can be saved, in which case this giant headed chap will only be guilty of attempted tree murder, which is not punishable by death, even in Alabama.

Since the ground under the trees will remain poisoned for years, why don't they erect statues of trees? Think about it.. It's a win/win... It's cheaper, they will last forever (the trees were said to have been dying anyway) & they can TP them without harming them themselves!

Of all the many punks and fools that have posted on this site, none of them can hold a candle to the idiot 'moviking80'.  How do you get out of bed in the morning without falling flat on your face, 'moviking80'?  Or am I giving you too much credit for knowing how to potty and navigate through a door?

I hope they give him several years in prison.  It may have only been trees but this is just some freak who is obviously a mental case.  Roll Tide?  I hardly think so.
