Ohio St. recruiting class finishes with Carter

Ohio State added a 24th and final member to its recruiting class yesterday, but that signee won't arrive in Columbus without some degree on controversy.

That signee is Chris Carter, the 6'6", 350-pound offensive lineman who on Signing Day, Feb. 1, was arrested on suspicion fondling multiple underage girls while pretending to measure them for ROTC uniforms. The arrest threw Carter's future with the Buckeyes into doubt, but a lack of evidence resulted in the case being dismissed shortly afterwards.

After "three weeks of looking into the situation," Jim Tressel elected to overlook the arrest and welcome Carter with open arms :
"He has had a great support system at home, as well as at his high school. ... They truly believe that Chris will have great success on and off the field at Ohio State."
Whether fair or not, Tressel will have to hope that makes good on that promise of "great success off the field," since few players in Columbus (if any) will be under as much scrutiny for their off-field behavior. But if Carter can prove the arrest and suspicion is truly behind him, the Buckeyes will be getting a huge building block for an offensive line that has occasionally struggled against top-flight competition in recent years.

Room him with Sullinger.  They can make up stories about spitting and then touch each other.

This kid is a punk, when you read the story he has no business going to college let alone playing football at a major university. Anyone that defends this kid is as disgusting as he is...

Why is it that Buckeye fans on here seem to think that writers and others have an agenda against them?  Please explain this to the rest of the 49 states.

This story would have been posted if it were any other major program, you are not being singled out, your inferiority complex never ceases to amaze.

Innocent or not, I'd bet you'd think differently if this guy was hanging around your daughter or sister.  Its ridiculous the way major universites fall all over themselves for recruits like this.

Who cares...whats this team going to do anyways win the miserble big ten and then get blown out in a bowl game...They should be barred from playing the SEC.Let them play like Pitt, that would be a good game, they could win that one.

Couldn't have said it any better.  The 'charges' were dropped and he signed his letter of intent.  Anyone who suggests OSU signs troubled players must have completely forgot how college football works.  Free Shoes U bought all of their players until they got busted hard.  The SEC top programs buy troubled players consistently - Fairley and Newton being the latest examples.  Nobody is perfect, they all do the same thing.  Whoever can get away with it the best wins the national title.  Bottom line.  You know everyone from Ohio will defend OSU, the southern folks will defend the SEC, southwesterners with the Big 12 and so on.  It's a moot point.

Can't sell a story without controversy, hence CBS posts bs stories and make you watch/listen to a 30 second commercial.  CBS and ESPN are the biggest media whores.  Gotta have to sponsor every gd thing it shows to the viewing public.

Hmmmm, and 18 year old boy in high school grabs a girls boobie?  Oh my god that is big time news!!!!!!  In the history of the United States this is the very first time a high school boy has touched a girls breasts or booty!  Wait I did that in high school too and was promptly smacked.  Wait if I think even deeper I recall a lot of young boys getting smacked for grabbing booty and boobie.  Than again I recall the little girls grabbing packages also.  I think I will call this pubecent curiousity, thanks Jerry Hinnen without your article the world would never know that high school boys and girls are curious about each other.  Thanks for the alert on human nature.

I think Jerry Hinnen the author of this article is just a little bit "slow"

I find it quite amusing that writers hate tOSU so much they have to write such cabbage. I thought it was innocent until proven guilty, not the other way around. I guess biased writers will write anything just to take a jab at a team that the envy so much they have to hate. Cool O-H----!!!!!!!!!!!
