Georgia's Washaun Ealey reinstated

Earlier this month Georgia suspended running back Washaun Ealey indefinitely. Ealey had been suspended from all team activities for failing to show up to a "punishment run" on February 8th, marking the second time in eight months that Ealey had been suspended. Amazingly, now that spring practice is right around the corner for the Bulldogs, Ealey has been reinstated.

Mark Richt made the announcement on Saturday afternoon that Ealey will be able to rejoin the team "in full standing."

“Over the past few weeks, Washaun has done the things we expect him to do, the things we expect all our players to do,” Richt said in a statement.  “He’s been doing things the Georgia way and will rejoin team activities Monday.”

Which makes sense, really. Yes, Ealey may have missed a punishment run, but I'm not sure that is enough to warrant suspending him through spring practice. It seems Richt was just trying to send a message to his running back, and it sounds like the message has been received.

After being suspended for the first game of the 2010 season for a hit-and-run accident, Ealey played in the rest of Georgia's games, finishing the year with 811 yards and 11 touchdowns for the Bulldogs.

And for anyone who is commenting on what Ealey did, or his punishment, or what Coach Richt made him do. You have no idea what happened so there isn't much to comment on. Except for Ealey did what Richt wanted him to, and move on.

I don't know why everyone is so upset. Ealey is a good back and is a great #2 back. Ealey is the perfect back to have while Crowell is getting rest on the sideline.

I think this is kind of silly. He should at least be suspended through spring practice. It shouldnt matter a whole lot, because he won't get much playing time on behalf of Isiah Crowell

So Richt thinks that by suspending Ealey for a couple of meaningless weeks, he has straightened this kid out.  Who is he trying to fool, other than himself.  This kid is nothing but trouble, and a suspension when the team is inactive is totally and completely meaningless.  If Richt wanted to do something meaningful, he would have suspended the kid for the first game of the season.  Wait a minute.  Doesn't Georgia open up against Boise State in Atlanta?  Ah, no wonder Ealey is back on the team so soon.

As far as I know, he didn't get in trouble for doing any illegal by law.  Is that correct?  If that is indeed the case, then that's completely the coach's call and it's a risk reward situation.  I mean GA fans, be honest, there's been some discipline issues recently.  If Ealey is one of the bad apples...they tend to seed and contaminate others.  Just saying.  With that said, Richt also HAS to win this year.  He pumped up his recruiting class to such hype that if he doesn't do well this year, he may not have to worry about it next season.

Isaiah Crowell will get the first carry of the season against Boise State anyway.  Ealey just made Richt's decision on his starting RB an easy one.

Trojanspac10, how does this show that UGA is desperate? Ealey has been in the doghouse of the coaching staff for quite some time, but missing a mandatory punishment run doesn't warrant a revoked scholarship like a DUI or some other serious arrest would.

Worry about your own coach.

This doesn't make a lot of sense in regard we just signed the top RB in the nation. Caleb King is more than able to handle the duties until he's ready.

I like Mark Richt but this just shows how desperate the UGA Football Program is. The last few seasons GA has not faired well in the SEC East and now its obviously DO or Die time for the coaching staff, literally.
