Brady Hoke calls Tressel 'a good man'

It's been nearly 48 hours since Yahoo's story about Jim Tressel covering up Ohio State violations first broke, and I have to say that I'm a bit disappointed with the reaction of Michigan fans everywhere. I've found that when you have no dog in the fight, watching two fan bases go at each other, particularly ones in a rivalry as fierce as that of Ohio State and Michigan, is some of the finest entertainment on this series of tubes we call the internet.

As I scour the internet today, though, there's a surprising lack of "LOL" coming from the Michigan side of the rivalry. I mean, considering all the fun Ohio State fans had with Rich Rodriguez, who only made his players practice more than they should, and was labeled a cheater, isn't this when Michigan fans should be unleashing hell upon Buckeyes everywhere?

Making matters worse, there's this quote from new Michigan head coach Brady Hoke.

"[Jim Tressel's] a good man, and I have a lot of respect for him, and they'll fight through that situation, and it will have no effects on the rivalry," Hoke told the Detroit Free Press. "I've known Jim Tressel a long time. He's a quality guy, a doggone good football coach, and I don't know that situation," Hoke said. "I know what we're focused on at Michigan."
More on Ohio State investigation

He's a good man and a doggone good football coach? That's the best you have, Michigan? I know that Jim Tressel publicly supported Rich Rodriguez during his NCAA investigation, but I think we now know why The Sweatervest did that. Those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones and what not.

I mean, this is supposed to be one of the greatest rivalries in college sports, if not sport itself. You guys are slipping. This love-fest is giving the rivalry more of an Iowa-Purdue "we needed a rival for both these teams, so we gave them each other" feel.

Step it up, Big Blue.

I have no idea who Tom Fornelli is or where he is going to try and find UM fans enjoying a potential OSU sanction because they aren't hard to find. I also don't know what else he expected Hoke to say...coaches don't go out and bash other coaches or at least its extrmemly rare. There is no reason for Hoke to start running his mouth at the expense of OSU, it makes him and the program look childish.

Personally, while I wouldn't mind this giving UM a little help in the recruiting deptartment, especially this season with some good talent coming out of the Midwest...in order for UM to get back to their winning ways I would rather it be against a fully functioning OSU program, not one handicapped by a bowl season bans, scholly reductions or a fired HC.

I think Michigan fans have taken pause, when you back your car into a tree, everyone gets a laugh, when you flip you car speeding 100mph while drunk - people just stay quiet, i'd suggest these observations fail to acknowledge the severity, this is a character and integrity issue all for ego and winning - and more to the point, it shows the difference between OSU fans and Blue fans, yappers versus, well, not yappers!

Wow Tom,

So you actually encourage immature behavior, huh? I dont think us Michigan fans are concerned with bashing OSU mosltly because we are focused on our own set of problems right now, Like the fact that it has been the worst few years in the history of UM football. And not to mention the fact that UM is on probation for violations as we speak. Even though OSU made what some would consider worse violations, they are still violations. OSU fans were on a very high horse when UM got socked with violations because they were winning and they were the best team in the Big 10 for some years.

Personally, I would like to see both teams firing on all cylinders and playing great games again. That is what makes a rivalry. Rivalries are made on the feild, not by what one fan says about the other team. What are you about 8 years old dude??? Seriously, you think the OSU-UM rivalry was based upon trash talking and not the fact that we played eachother for the Big Ten Championship for a number of decades??? COMMON MAN

Michigan fans are really sorry that we make young men work too hard.  OSU fans are really sorry that their coach let genuine compassion for a young man's welfare affect his tenacious adherance to the NCAA rule book.  Yes, both were violations of the rules, but neither one affect the outcome of any game.  May the NCAA find these sorts of problems in the Big Ten schools more often, because it just doesn't make me feel real bad that some football players felt pressured to work extra hard and I won't limit a man's compassion when the outcome of the game is not at stake. OSU's response was appropriate; it shouldn't be swept under the rug.  Brady Hoke is right- Tressel is a good man and we want him to stay in the Big Ten.  (They should have kept Steve Fisher too.)

Uhhhhhhh!  The differance between DickRod and Teflon Jim is Jimbo holds the record for MOST BCS APPEARANCES AND WINS, and DickRod was a Snake Oil saleman that Michigan brought in to try and use his gimmicky style of football to try and take over the Big Ten.

Jim Tressel however is a God fairing man.

Just sayin'   Most Winningest coach in BCS history!

First of all, Michigan fans have more class than OSU fans, so that's the primary explanation.  Secondly, OSU fans are obsessed with Michigan, whereas Michigan fans have other things to think about.  Thirdly, I never realized what a nerd Tressel looks like until recently.  Just an observation.

It goes to what I posted yesterday, that Michigan needs Ohio St. and this only proves it, Michigan needs to rebuild their once proud program, they do not want Ohio St. to be put on probation, They need Penn St. Wisconsin, and now Nebraska to be solid teams, if the NCAA comes down on the Buckeyes. Coach Hoke  needs to get this program rolling again, not just for Michigan, but for the Big Ten also!

tOSU has one rival.  Michigan has at least four or five.  Not to say tOSU game isn't the most important.  We just aren't consumed with them as they are us.  Michigan fans just aren't like tOSU fans.  They have a deep seeded hatred for us due to a couple factors, primarily the late great Woody Hayes and his attitude that they all mimic.  Not to mention we are focused on ourselves right now.  We are concerned with turning this thing around, not kicking a brother when they are down.  Don't throw stones when you live in a glass house.  While Michigan's violations were extremely lesser than tOSU's, we still screwed up too.

It's called having class Tom, what else do you want Michigan fans to say?

O$U cheats?
O$U lies?
O$U runs a dirty program?

We've known this for years, so excuse us if we react with somewhat of a Yaaaawwwwn to the latest reports.

Here's hoping the Buckeyes can survive this 2 game suspension, Akron is licking their chops, go Zips!
