Just because we are in the offseason, that doesn't mean that Aubrn can't find a way to make it into the college football headlines.  On Friday, the Auburn Police Department issued a report that four Auburn football players had been arrested for armed robbery.

On Friday, March 11, 2011, the Auburn Police Division arrested four people and charged each of them with five counts of Robbery 1st Degree, one count of Burglary 1st Degree, and one count of Theft of Property 3rd Degree. They are identified as Antonio M. Goodwin, age 20, Kowaski Q. Kitchens, age 19, Michael A. McNeil, age 22, and Harrison D. Mosley, age 19. All list an Auburn address. At approximately 12:25 a.m. this same date officers responded to a residence located in the 2300 block of Lee Road 137 (Wire Road) in reference to the report of a robbery that had just occurred. According to the five victims present, three black males entered the residence with one displaying a handgun. Personal property was stolen during the incident. No injuries were reported. A patrolman responding to the area observed what he believed to be the suspect vehicle based on a description he was given. Officers stopped the vehicle in the 1200 block of Wire Road and four suspects were taken into custody. A pistol and the stolen property was recovered at the scene. Goodwin, Kitchens, McNeil, and Mosley were transported to the Lee County Detention Center where each is currently being held on a $511,000 bond.

Obviously all very serious charges, head coach Gene Chizik wasted no time to take action.

"The players arrested in connection with this deeply troubling incident have been permanently dismissed from our football team," coach Chizik said in a prepared statement.  "While we realize the legal process will run its course and these young men have a right for their case to be heard, playing for Auburn University is an honor and a privilege. It is not a right."

Hehe! I'm sure Finebaum is far from being right about everything, but he was right when he said you "Bammers" were not handling "it" well.

The sporting world would be so much better, on all levels, if more of the athletes realized that, realized how gifted they are and felt pride in what they were doing instead of acting the fool and just trying to grab a paycheck.

>>>These four former Auburn players will soon be playing for another SEC or BIG 10 school

No they won't - they'll be in jail. Armed robbery isn't equivalent to walking into an empty dorm room and stealing a laptop.

I love the font some of you use, your statements are not that important.  Find it funny with UGA and Auburn arguing which programs is less corrupt.

Must be a source of pride!

Four Auburn players tied to robbery, arrested

Zack Mettenberger paid his dues:  got kicked off a BCS team got shipped to football neverland and earned his chance to come back and compete for something he had in his hands.  Not sure he entered a residence and took somebody else's belongings while putting them at risk.  Auburn, the ceiling will bust on top of your heads soon, Finebaum is now saying he is sure that Cam Newton knew about his fathers doings.  AU can you spell V A C A T E???

Sure Chizik now that you robbed Patrick Peterson and Julio Jones the chance to play in Glendale just kick the whole team to the curb.  You won't last long on the Plains, they'll be kicking you to the curb soon.

Four Auburn players tied to robbery, arrested

Do you really want to talk about UGA having off the field issues when Auburn just had 4 players faced with felony charges while UGA's players have had no trouble with the law this offseason? Last night's incident just confirms that Auburn's players are dirty both on and off the field. FWIW, UGA won the Fulmer Cup last year with 21 points, which are awarded to each team for by the charges of each player. Auburn has 80 and it's only March. Congratulations.

Yes I do.  You can't really ask for credibility when your team is the reigning Fulmer cup champions.  Secondly, you seem to suffer from this delusion that AUBURN, the actual institution, or the other good players on the team, had something to do with this.  Saying that AUBURN as a whole is a place of trouble making is laughable and it is immature and offensive to the players who do it right.  I would esitmate that 20 of our players have been arrested in the past 20 years, and that includes these 4 idiots.  Auburn has never been a place for lots of off the field issues and you simply cannot hold the entire University accountable for a few bad apples.  It's called free will dude.  Chizik, or Auburn's Atheltic Department cannot control these kids and what they do in their spare time.

Now, what I will repeat, and what is true, is that you can't have it both ways.  It does seem like more stories like this will come out of Auburn now because we are going for the best players in the nation now.  Unfortunately, if you want to win national titles, you are going to have to recruit some players with shady backgrounds.  That's just the way it is.  A lot of times the best players come from very poor backgrounds.  So, Auburn fans are just going to have to realize that a few of these guys are going to do dumb things.  And so what if we win the Fulmer Cup this year.....it would have to be our first.  Auburn kids normally stay out of trouble so their is nothing to be ashamed of.

AUTiger7788, you couldn't be any more wrong. Does Zach Mettenberger ring a bell to you?

Oh wow so you bring up the one case where Richt did the right thing.  Look, all I am saying is these four kids at Auburn had this in them a long time ago.  To committ roberry with a handgun is beyond hideous and they are a different kind of person.  But what is going on at UGA is a major problem because it shows the team as a whole doesn't respect their coach.  You can expect more of the same next year and that was solidified when Richt let that whiny Ealy back on the team.  When UGA players continue to drink and drive, or get arrested downtown, it just shows they dont fear their coach.  The Auburn players' crimes were rididuclous but it was an isolated incident based on dumb decisions on one night.  UGA has had a stable path of kids in trouble off the field for the past several years and that is because they don't respect Richt.  And give me a break with the Fairly thing, my god, you still whining about him?

Great example of what I am saying.  Maro Fannin, senior at Auburn last year was always in the shadow of former running back Ben Tate.  Tate then graduated and it was now Fannin's turn.  However, last season we recruited Michael Dyer, the nations #1 running back.  What did Fannin do?  Did he whine like a little girl like Ealy and King are about Crowell?  No, he sucked it up, helped out all season, and caught a clutch third and long pass in the 4th quarter of the national championship game to beat Oregon.  That kind of attitude is taught from his coaches.  Same thing with Kodi Burns at Auburn.  Former QB got beat out, caught a TD in the NT game to beat Oregon.  Richt and UGA don't have that.  It starts in the locker room.

Four Auburn players tied to robbery, arrested

Wow.. how dumb can you be?  These guys have the privilege of playing football for a high-profile university and they ruin it by committing premeditated armed robbery?.. the best is that there were 4 of them on the same team that were that stupid.. not one of them said.."hey, wait a minute.. maybe we shouldn't do this".  It goes to show you that many of these SEC schools have such great football programs because they have no admission requirements for athletes.. SEC schools admissions interview-- "what's that, you're dumb-as-a-stump and a future convict.. there's no way you can meet the academic requirements?.. don't worry about those details.. you can run really fast and you're strong as an ox.. welcome to the team, son!"

I can forgive young athletes who make impulsive stupid decisions like getting in fights or driving under the influence.. but this story disgusts me.
