Just because we are in the offseason, that doesn't mean that Aubrn can't find a way to make it into the college football headlines.  On Friday, the Auburn Police Department issued a report that four Auburn football players had been arrested for armed robbery.

On Friday, March 11, 2011, the Auburn Police Division arrested four people and charged each of them with five counts of Robbery 1st Degree, one count of Burglary 1st Degree, and one count of Theft of Property 3rd Degree. They are identified as Antonio M. Goodwin, age 20, Kowaski Q. Kitchens, age 19, Michael A. McNeil, age 22, and Harrison D. Mosley, age 19. All list an Auburn address. At approximately 12:25 a.m. this same date officers responded to a residence located in the 2300 block of Lee Road 137 (Wire Road) in reference to the report of a robbery that had just occurred. According to the five victims present, three black males entered the residence with one displaying a handgun. Personal property was stolen during the incident. No injuries were reported. A patrolman responding to the area observed what he believed to be the suspect vehicle based on a description he was given. Officers stopped the vehicle in the 1200 block of Wire Road and four suspects were taken into custody. A pistol and the stolen property was recovered at the scene. Goodwin, Kitchens, McNeil, and Mosley were transported to the Lee County Detention Center where each is currently being held on a $511,000 bond.

Obviously all very serious charges, head coach Gene Chizik wasted no time to take action.

"The players arrested in connection with this deeply troubling incident have been permanently dismissed from our football team," coach Chizik said in a prepared statement.  "While we realize the legal process will run its course and these young men have a right for their case to be heard, playing for Auburn University is an honor and a privilege. It is not a right."

Four Auburn players tied to robbery, arrested

There was really no decision required here.  Chizik did what he had to do in kicking these criminals off the team.  Every coach in America would have done the same thing given the situation.  There are times that judgement call are needed, but this was not one of them.  It is a shame that college football teams have these types of individuals playing for them.  The players were the worst form of scum, taking something from others at gunpoint.  The players get a free education and can get Pell Grants and student loans if money is that tight.  There is no need to steal, and playing players would not have changed the situation.  Criminals are criminals, and that is what these guys were.

Good for Coach Chizik. That's the most intelligent remark I've ever heard from him.
"While we realize the legal process will run its course and these young men have a right for their case to be heard, playing for Auburn University is an honor and a privilege. It is not a right."

Four Auburn players tied to robbery, arrested

One would have thought that these kids would have dropped by the home of Mr. Cecil Newton he at least had 200k sitting around the place or if they wanted personal property why not drop by Columbus where the players seem to have a yard sale on a daily basis. To Chiziks credit he kicked them off the team rather than lie and make every effort to cover it up.

Four Auburn players tied to robbery, arrested

I TOO find this a bit odd that actual crimes were committed while cbs focused on iowa players getting sick for 2 months and ohio state players selling their OWN possessions which they will try and keep going all spring.
not ONE comment from the ethic bros about auburns felons?  NOT ONE?????  4 players committed felonies and NOT ONE HEADLINE from cbs???? a side story??? after the biggest scam of a championship whose star players dad was actually found guilty of pay for play but the star that cbs and the suc led ncaa is protecting pretending everything was A-OKAY by these 2 douchebags
so what does it take for a suc crime to make a headline on the suc network, cbs??
what a bunch of cowards dodd and doyeliet are not even commenting. GUILTY! BUSTED...i will hide in my cave and pretend i didnt read about 4 players from the cheating national championship team getting arrested yesterday all while i continue to harp on something that keeps the big ten in the spotlight even though none of them were actual crimes.

Actually, players from a southern football team getting arrested for breaking the law isn't really news, now is it?

In the even that these players weren't scrubs but actual talent, I am impressed that Coach Chizik took such swift action.  THAT is news in this case.

Four Auburn players tied to robbery, arrested

Why is this not the lead story on cBS?  A week-old story about Ohio State's coach remains the lead story while breaking news about crimes involving a SEC team are  set off to the side for "other stories."  It's almost as if cBS wants to dwell on the Big 10 and avoid the SEC.  Had this been a story on a Big 10 team, I guarantee you that it would include more than just a short blog on the second day.  cBS would have written multiple stories by now.  Where are the wonder dweebs, Dodd and Doyel?  Speechless?  Hiding in a closet? Taking journalism classes at a correspondence school?

Crooks Rule

Auburn---crooked to the core.  Payoffs, coverups---now 4 star players are out robbing people at gunpoint.  The university should shut down the program.
