Just because we are in the offseason, that doesn't mean that Aubrn can't find a way to make it into the college football headlines.  On Friday, the Auburn Police Department issued a report that four Auburn football players had been arrested for armed robbery.

On Friday, March 11, 2011, the Auburn Police Division arrested four people and charged each of them with five counts of Robbery 1st Degree, one count of Burglary 1st Degree, and one count of Theft of Property 3rd Degree. They are identified as Antonio M. Goodwin, age 20, Kowaski Q. Kitchens, age 19, Michael A. McNeil, age 22, and Harrison D. Mosley, age 19. All list an Auburn address. At approximately 12:25 a.m. this same date officers responded to a residence located in the 2300 block of Lee Road 137 (Wire Road) in reference to the report of a robbery that had just occurred. According to the five victims present, three black males entered the residence with one displaying a handgun. Personal property was stolen during the incident. No injuries were reported. A patrolman responding to the area observed what he believed to be the suspect vehicle based on a description he was given. Officers stopped the vehicle in the 1200 block of Wire Road and four suspects were taken into custody. A pistol and the stolen property was recovered at the scene. Goodwin, Kitchens, McNeil, and Mosley were transported to the Lee County Detention Center where each is currently being held on a $511,000 bond.

Obviously all very serious charges, head coach Gene Chizik wasted no time to take action.

"The players arrested in connection with this deeply troubling incident have been permanently dismissed from our football team," coach Chizik said in a prepared statement.  "While we realize the legal process will run its course and these young men have a right for their case to be heard, playing for Auburn University is an honor and a privilege. It is not a right."

Four Auburn players tied to robbery, arrested

Well, let's see, isn't this somehow the coach's fault.  Aren't we going to fry him like we tried to do with Tressel this week.  It's time people realize this is a tough culture we live in, and everything that happens isn't the coach's fault.

Four Auburn players tied to robbery, arrested

why isnt dodd jumping on this....FIRE THE COACH NOW...story????????  makes that stupid a$$ story of sports illustrated and the crime of the PRESEASON top 20 look pretty silly too. oh for those alchol iowans topping the list...lets blame kirk ferentz for everything.
i love how theres no dodd or doyeliet blog about this little diddy yet. not a whisper from either of them. im guessing they are writing it right now and figuring out how to blame KF as i type.  and it makes the.. fire the coach rant...who knew their players were selling their own stuff even dumber.
i dont care if chizik kicked them off the team...because who knows.. if he pulls a florida (see the death threat texter) and then they are suddenly back after a summer of nobody is paying attention  or when an important game is about to happen.  why isnt the media crucifying chizik as only a thugs recruiter?  if anything required a FIRE THE COACH NOW, its THIS time. after the coach just orchestrated a pay for play championship and played stupid along with the pay for play player.
this is why when dodd and doyeliet start ripping on the big ten for things that dont even compare to what some of these suc coaches do, posters and fans roll their eyes in disgust and laugh at the ethic brothers ...fire this coach NOW articles of hypocrisy

Look how much money these athlete's are makin the universities, pay'em something, most of them come from very poor back ground's, don't give all of them money just the one's that need it, GREEDY UNIES

What a jackass comment.  Yes, they are poor so we should not punish them for breaking the law.  We should have our possessions and money given to them because we don't deserve it, since we only work for it.  An education, room, and meals is not enough to give these poor thugs.  They deserve more.  After all, they are going to share back with all of us when they get to the NFL.  Oh, wait, they still won't have to because they are then poor, underpaid players who put their bodies on the line to entertain us.

What a crock of $#!T!

Okay...  So Cam Newton committed a robbery and was given a second chance by Gene Chizik and Auburn University....  But it's an honor and a privilege to play there not a right?  Where's the sliding scale for what gets you run Gene?  I mean these guys haven't even had a day in court yet and you have permanently removed them from the squad.  You promise kids you will be a second father to them when they come to play for your program and then you dump them when a very serious situation arises.  I think it's cowardice.  I think it's hypocritical.  I think it's rash.  And I think these players must not be very good or Gene wouldn't have shut the door on the Cam Newton second chance so quickly.

You people who say SEC players are all thugs need to get a life.  I would say no more than 98% are thugs, and there is no need to paint the other 2% that way!

Just because these guys are poor does not mean they need to go out a rob people.  I agree they need to be paid something, but not because they are poor.  They need to be paid because they are making the school money and since they are playing a sport for the school are unable to work have a part or full time job.

I had no money when I was in college and did not rush into a house and hold people at gun point.   Payment has nothing to do with this.  These guys were given a great opportunity and would have found a way to ruin their standing with the team at some point payment or not.  Good people dont break into a house at gun point to rob others.
