Just because we are in the offseason, that doesn't mean that Aubrn can't find a way to make it into the college football headlines.  On Friday, the Auburn Police Department issued a report that four Auburn football players had been arrested for armed robbery.

On Friday, March 11, 2011, the Auburn Police Division arrested four people and charged each of them with five counts of Robbery 1st Degree, one count of Burglary 1st Degree, and one count of Theft of Property 3rd Degree. They are identified as Antonio M. Goodwin, age 20, Kowaski Q. Kitchens, age 19, Michael A. McNeil, age 22, and Harrison D. Mosley, age 19. All list an Auburn address. At approximately 12:25 a.m. this same date officers responded to a residence located in the 2300 block of Lee Road 137 (Wire Road) in reference to the report of a robbery that had just occurred. According to the five victims present, three black males entered the residence with one displaying a handgun. Personal property was stolen during the incident. No injuries were reported. A patrolman responding to the area observed what he believed to be the suspect vehicle based on a description he was given. Officers stopped the vehicle in the 1200 block of Wire Road and four suspects were taken into custody. A pistol and the stolen property was recovered at the scene. Goodwin, Kitchens, McNeil, and Mosley were transported to the Lee County Detention Center where each is currently being held on a $511,000 bond.

Obviously all very serious charges, head coach Gene Chizik wasted no time to take action.

"The players arrested in connection with this deeply troubling incident have been permanently dismissed from our football team," coach Chizik said in a prepared statement.  "While we realize the legal process will run its course and these young men have a right for their case to be heard, playing for Auburn University is an honor and a privilege. It is not a right."

"How is this not a bigger story than the tattoo five and Tressel?"
It's apples and oranges.  Tressel (and all big time coaches) is well known,  held to a high standard, and expected to lead and teach young people.  These guys are good at a game.  You can recruit players out of bad situations and try to help them change, and some do.  Then you have these guys who stick to their roots and refuse to take advantage of a good opportunity.

The rules are the rules! Heh.

Hey, these Auburn players knew the rules.  If you're not as good as Cam Newton or Nick Fairley, or at least an all-SEC player, then you have to stay out of trouble.

lol at millpounder, do you really think for 1 second that chizik sat back and compared this situation to tressel??  the situations arent even similar, first off how do you cover-up an armed robbery that the players were ARRESTED for??  a jail docket can be seen by anyone, including those in the ncaa, but maybe you can tell me, what bylaw of the ncaa did these guys break by committing armed robbery?  is there even a rule against college players, similar to the conduct detremental rules against pro players??  i would assume not since jensen jackson of tennessee was able to continue playing after he was involved (supposedly) in an armed robbery, but even if there was a rule, you couldnt hold it against the school, just the player, but my first thought when i read the names was whether or not that mcneil kid that was arrested is any relation to marcus mcneil of the chargers??  both from auburn so i had to wonder

because they are not their 5 best players.  The Tatoo 5 were the suckeyes 5 best players.  YOu don't have to worry about those 5 anyway.  Them and the vest will never play or coach for os(pew) again!

They must have all been 3rd stringers.  If any one of them was a star on the Auburn team they would have been "suspended pending further review" with a comment by coach Gene Chizik that these young men are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
