UPDATE: Brian Kelly announced on Monday evening that Michael Floyd has been suspended indefinitely

Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd has only improved as his career has progressed, which is why Irish fans were thrilled to hear the star announce that he would return for his senior season.  Unfortunately, his decision making has not undergone the same improvements.

WDNC in South Bend is reporting that Floyd was arrested early Sunday on a DUI charge, just 15 months after being cited for underage drinking in January 2010.  Floyd was reportedly arrested by Notre Dame police around 4 a.m. then released later after posting bond.

Floyd had the best season of his career in 2010, pulling in 79 receptions and totaling 1,025 yards to go along with 12 touchdowns. The Irish had a less than stable quarterback situation last season, but it did not matter for Floyd who now sits second all-time in career receptions. Currently with 171 catches on his career, it is assumed that floyd will catch Jeff Smardzija (179) in the 2011 season.

Brian Kelly, nor Notre Dame has made an official statement on the issue. Stay tuned to CBSSports.com for more as this develops.

Agreed on the "wake up" portion sweetluny.  Police state is a drastic statement.  Enforced the law is more appropriate.  Many of us have drank and drove over the years, but most of us eventually grow up and realize the negative effects (lost license, jail, injury to others or ourselves).  We should all be a little hesitant to throw stones at the kid.  Dumb mistakes are part of college.

He is lucky though. He will find out sooner than later how bad of a decision it was.  And being caught by the police is better than being pried from a wrecked car.

Unfortunately the bashing can't hold a candle to the ND apologists.  Good luck in next year's Sun Bowl, ND- that is if you don't deem it beneath you.

Can you please wake up! In this day and age you need to finally understand that you can not drink & drive! As riduculous as these laws are, as fascists as MADD has become, this is the police state we now live in.
pol•ice state
noun
a totalitarian state controlled by a political police force that secretly supervises the citizens' activities.
Law enforcement officers enforcing a just and necessary law does not a police state make.

Report: Michael Floyd arrested for DUI

Floyd will not be playing for ND this season. It's disappointing as an Irish football fan, but it's definitely the right thing to do for the school and for Floyd. ND has already set a precedent that if you have more than one alcohol related offense, you're done. I wish Floyd the best, but he has made too many off the field mistakes to deserve to play this season. Hopefully Theo Riddick can step it up a bit this season and begin to make up for some of Floyd's loss on the field. Hopefully Floyd will learn from this and never sit behind the wheel under the influence ever again and grow from this.

Unfortunte for Floyd but hopefully he will learn from this poor decision.  He is lucky he did not kill himself or more impotantly, some other innocent person driving to work!  Sometimes in life it takes a big mistake to make one realize the gravity of a situation and how much they risk to lose...hopefully Michael Floyd comes back to earth and realizes that this terrible mistake had some potentially-fatal outcome.  This knowledge of his mistake and the punishment he will serve, WILL make him a better person in the long run.  Everyone makes mistakes and as long as they learn from these mistakes, maybe they were meant to be.

So drinking and driving is a ridiculous law???  That might be the most ridiculous statement I've ever heard!  You must of been talking to yourself when you said "Can you please wake up"
