The future of Toomer's Corner has gone back and forth ever since the news originally broke that Alabama fan Harvey Updyke had poisoned the famous trees. At first Auburn's beloved oak trees were doomed, and then there was a chance that the trees could survive. In between, Updyke went through roughly 300 lawyers before finally finding one that had no relationship with Auburn.

Whoever will be defending Updyke, their job just got a bit harder. Thanks to the latest sampling of the soil at Toomer's, it's now believed that the trees don't have much chance for survival.
New soil samples from the Toomer's Corner trees allegedly poisoned by a disgruntled Alabama fan show the herbicide traveled much deeper than originally thought, WTVM in Columbus reports.
As a result, it's looking less likely that Auburn University's historic oaks can be saved.
By the end of April, their new leaves should be big enough to see if they too are infected with the herbicide, Spike 80 DF, the station reported.
In other words, we should expect to hear about 15 different diagnoses on the trees before the leaves let us know whether or not they're infected. How will the leaves tell us? I'm not sure. Probably some kind of tree psychic or leaf whisperer. Yes, I know they could easily find out in a lab, but this story has gone down enough crazy paths already to convince me it'll be a leaf whisperer.

I will be a little pissed if the fan who did this gets off easy. I hope there's at least a month in jail with a large fine in store for this moron. One of the things I love about college sports are the various traditions. This means a lot to many people and fans from other schools shouldn't try to trivialize this.

It's not just a tree you nitwit.  How about a Michigan fan destroy touchdown Jesus and see how you react...
Notre Dame stations a sniper on the Hesburgh Library 24/7/365, no chance of a Michigan fan getting close, besides a skunkbear would need four friends, and a GPS to find the library anyway.

As for the ND fan that decried Toomer's corner as just trees, he probably never set foot on the campus.  All who love college football should be saddened by a potential loss of a tradition.  Sorry Auburn, he's been discommunicated.

Are Irish fans really that ignorant?

I think spray-painting touchdown jesus may change someone opinion a little on them being just trees... BUt a wall can be repainted and restored quite quickly. The trees and there tradition can't be as easily replaced or repaired.

We may not be able to enforce never wearing 'bama gear, but we can tatoo "IDIOT" on his forehead, 'BAMA Blows on one cheeek and the AU logo on the other and make him wear that around as punishment...

Toomer's Corner trees are doomed, for now

This is from the Spike 80DF factsheet.

Absorbed by the roots, Spike® 80DF herbicide translocates throughout the susceptible plant to interfere
with photosynthesis until the plant dies. The plant may repeatedly drop its leaves, grow new foliage, and
drop its leaves again until root reserves are exhausted.
It's very simple, if the new leaves drop(meaning fall off of the tree), it's a bad sign.

You have to remember Notre Dame fans are too busy thinking they are an elite program for this Irish Idiot to realize what a dumb statement he just made about the Toomer Corner Trees!!!  Geaux Tigers!

Toomer's Corner trees are doomed, for now

The majestic oaks that define Toomer's Corner in Auburn are much more than "just trees".  Intelligent, competent people would understand that.
