In the wake of the Fiesta Bowl's investigative report released today -- and its immediate firing of CEO John Junker thereafter -- there's bound to be mountains of scrutiny on the Fiesta Bowl going forward. Today, BCS chairman Bill Hancock announced that the BCS would consider stripping the Fiesta Bowl of its BCS status.

"The BCS group takes this matter very seriously and will consider whether they keep a BCS bowl game, and we will consider other appropriate sanctions," Hancock told the Arizona Republic. "If the bowl does remain a BCS bowl its handling of thing [sic] will be closely monitored going forward."

There's no timetable for these sanctions, nor any indication that the BCS is actively pursuing that level of punishment as yet, but the fact that it's even on the table should be terrifying for Fiesta Bowl officials. This isn't an idle threat, either; George Schroeder of the Register-Guard is reporting that the BCS will establish a task force and is asking the Fiesta Bowl to demonstrate why it should remain a BCS bowl .

The obvious beneficiary of this uncertainty is the Cotton Bowl, which is currently located in Jerry Jones ' otherworldly Cowboys Stadium and has been looking to re-establish its former glory. A BCS bid would be enough to make that happen. The only major barrier to that bid, if the Fiesta Bowl does indeed have its bid stripped, is television; the Cotton Bowl is currently televised by Fox, while the BCS has a contract with ESPN . That can likely be negotiated away, though.

There's also the issue of what would happen to the Cotton Bowl Classic in its current state -- as in the January 7 game pitting the Big 12 No. 2 and the SEC's No. 3, No. 4 or or No. 5 against each other -- but that's about 12 steps down the line, and we're still waiting for step two.

Well then you need to send a message to the theives and the NCAA. Put them in Jail. All of them. Junker is a clunker going to the clinker I hope. Let me guess....another AZ neo-con theiving the folks in AZ. Really not even a surprise. They should move the game. Have no Fiesta Bowl. The BCS is a bunch of crap anyway.

Cotton Bowl

To plan for his BCS bowl game, I heard Jerry Jones is already planning to add extra seats to Cowboys stadium for the big game to set a record!

The Cotton Bowl was always better than the Fiesta Bowl anyways.  The only reason the Fiesta got into the mix was in the mid-eighties when Penn State and Miami, two independents were undefeated and there was a need for a national title game.  Downgrade the Fiesta Bowl as an example that these so called charitable organizations are easing off the corruption.

Their will never be a playoffs as long as the bcsBIG CASH SON!!! bowls are in existance.  Now someones caught taking cash from the sacred cow,to funny.WIll never be a playoff if the "big"  confrences loose some of the cash pie,it all comes down to money.  Maybe the "amauter" players  from the 50 0 schools should strike like the no fun leaguge untill they get paid above board to.  I prefer college football to nfl but lets be honest every schools pushes the rules as far as they can if not farther when it comes to getting players to their schools  anyway.

I doubt it, this is one of their bigger venues. If anything they'll add the Cotton Bowl back into prominence.

Who CARES about Mount Union dominating Div III?  It's DIVISION III!  Parity is much more common in Div I now than ever before.  Don't believe me?  Who won the Rose Bowl last year?  A playoff is the only real postseason in sports.  Right now, there's one game that matters and a billion bowls that don't at the end of the year.  Who wants to watch those games anyway?

Wake up and smell the roses:  A playoff is coming and it's only a matter of time.  Or do the recent Fiesta Bowl events not convince you beyond a shadow of a doubt that the only reason we don't have a playoff is because of greed and money and nothing more?  If not, what the hell will convince you this bowl system is a joke?

Go ask Wisconsin White-water and Mt Union College...They roll through their playoff system every season it seems to face eachother for the title

Believe me, I know!  I worked the Stagg Bowl for 6 years prior to this year because I used to live in Salem, VA which was the host city for that and many other Division III National Chapionships.
