HBO still won't be airing its "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel" story on four former Auburn players who claim they received money amongst other perks to play football at Auburn for another couple of hours, but the story has been out for nearly 24 hours now. If you plan on watching, feel free to read along with the story from the post we wrote yesterday.

As you would expect, it's been a pretty big story since the transcripts broke on Tuesday, and the SEC released a statement about the show on Wednesday evening.

“We are aware of some of the information to be aired during this evening’s HBO Real Sports. Representatives from Auburn University, representatives from LSU and the SEC office have communicated with the NCAA Enforcement Staff. The involved institutions and the NCAA staff will pursue the allegations in a timely manner.”

Of course, what remains to be seen is whether or not the NCAA will be able to prove any of the allegations the players made to be true. Though the NCAA may find that the player's statements are more than enough evidence, as none of the four really have anything to gain by publicizing all of this.

SEC releases statement on HBO story

What about the opening of ESPN Sportscenter with Cam holding the crystal ball? Does that change it? Or how about every publication in the country what they print as this past year's NC? Will that change it? If not, then I guess you guys never REALLY won 13 NC either. Cause half of those you claim are disputed. Dirty or not, at least ours is UNDISPUTED. I guess you ran out of trees to kill. People like you are the reason I moved from the state of Alabama.

What does this statement mean anyway?  AU's one real NC came in the 50s when they were APT.  AP will not recognize AU as the new NC until it has been cleared.  How is that UNDISPUTED?  One, one, one.  One damn NC.  That's all you have.  Bama has 8 outright and 5 shared.  At least our NCs aren't questioned or marred by the possibility of paying players.

And what about the intro to ESPN?  Reggie Bush used to be on the intro.  USC holding their trophy used to be on the intro.

NFL great, Chris Carter, says that players, including his son, want to go to Bama because of the coach and the schemes.  He adds that Saban has the kind of work ethic that translates well in the NFL.  I hope AU keeps the scheme they have.  Eventually players will figure this out.  AWWW, i'm sorry. you actually thought Fairley would be a great pick.  as it turns out, teams think that he is a great play maker; however, Dareus is an offensive disrupter.  Which would you want????

this is why i love living in ALABAMA!!!

An Alabama fan calling the Auburn program dirty...now that is the pot calling the kettle black.  Dude, every competitive D-1 college football program pays their players under the table in one form or another, get over it.

AUWarbird - What about "the opening of ESPN Sportscenter with Cam holding the crystal ball"?  If USC can be stripped of their NC, so can dirty AU.  You obviously are highly influenced by printed material and pictures as though they suffice as support for you Barners.  It makes sense to me that HBO might be forced to delay this Bryant "Gumball" story because you Barners are still under investigation, and this story may be considered unduly influential and pointing out, finally, just how crooked the AU program is.  Regarding NCs again, I love your statement: "Dirty or not, at least ours is UNDISPUTED"!  So you admit AU is dirty and think your NC is actually undisputed?  Ha!  Clearly you've been highly selective in your selection of reading material.  You must have missed the Combine action too, to think of the 2010 AU players going to the NFL so highly.

SEC= Send Em Cash  Is anybody really surprised? Of course not. Eleven of twelve members have had major sanctions in last 15 years (Vandy is only honest school) Same old story. Financial rewards are worth the penalties. This will never change in this conference.

REALREBS, an incoming player commits to a school, knows nothing about NCAA violations, that happened four years earlier, and he should transfer, lose a year of eligibilty, not get to go to a bowl game, not be seen on the network, because your annoyed! I agree the school should be penalized, not the incoming players!

You want some cheese with that whine?
The reason you don't have a recruit in the top 250 is that you literally couldn't pay a player to go to SU. Football doesn't get any respect there, so why would you play there if you have other options?

But yes the SEC is all crooks, hope that helps your weak conference sleep at night.
