Willie Lowe to transfer from Iowa, citing rhabdo

A rhabdomyolysis scare may have briefly hospitalized 13 Iowa players earlier this year, but it has finally claimed its first permanent casualty of sorts. Willie Lowe, a cornerback who played a key reserve role for the Hawkeyes, announced today that he would be seeking a transfer from the school, according to Joe Schad.

"I would like to be able to sit out a year, regain my strength, feel fine and play again," Lowe told ESPN when asked about the prospect of playing football again. "But I don't know. I am still down 20 pounds and I am having headaches every few days."

Even as the 13 players have all been medically cleared to practice, most are still working to fully recover. There's a world of difference between "allowed to start practicing football again" and "back to normal," after all, and Lowe isn't the only player on that Iowa team who's still struggling to regain his pre-rhabdo form. Still, the fact that some players are at full speed already is promising, considering the fact that there's still five months of off-season left. That number of fully recovered players can only go up, after all.

As far as whether this is the last of the rhabdo-related transfers, that remains to be seen. There's little indication that a mass exodus of players is coming, to put it mildly, but the aftermath of the hospitalization and recovery will take months and years to unfold, long after every player has recovered. The longer said recovery takes, after all, the longer that player spends performing at a sub-optimal level -- all while his former backup (if he had one) relishes his new role with the team. At that point, the previously stricken player may decide to transfer just to get a little playing time instead of staying buried on the depth chart. Is that still a rhabdo-related transfer? Perhaps, but if the hypothetical player holds no animosity toward the coaches over the incident, then it's disingenuous to lump him in with Lowe, whose transfer is directly related to his rhabdomyolysis recover. So we'll see how this all shakes out; for now, it just looks as if the Iowa secondary just took a small hit, depth-wise, but that's about it.

Sorry Iowa sucks, but you are still a liar.  LSU fans do not tailgate with voodoo dolls or any such nonsense.  There may have been one group there, but that is not how we roll.  You were not there!!!  Just because you live in Florida, as do I, does not mean a brokedick like yourself can go to the bowl games.  I used to like the Iowa program until I joined this site and saw the goofballs that Iowa puts out as fans.  Now, you are at the bottom of the list.

Clearly, he was not at the Cap 1 Bowl when Iowa won because he clearly knows nothing about the LSU fanbase and tailgating.  Go read another story or two and then come back and put yourself in it again.  I always love when people do that.
clearly you would be WRONG. not only was i at the cap one, i was watching the LSU fanbase leave in shock. did the voodoo backfire??? i was also at the outback when iowa CRUSHED florida and them leaving in the 3rd quarter also in shock and i was at the cap one when iowa CRUSHED south carolina. i live in florida you moron. i was at all the florida bowl games and when i lived in iowa i went to their games in iowa city. im a diehard bleed black and gold fan...but you are too stupid to figure that out. and what makes you so CERTAIN...HE was not at the....????

now im really laughing because obviously YOU DONT KNOW CRAP or should i say CAP
and YOU REALLY REALLY dont know anything about iowa football with your 8-4/9-3 iowa normality comment
 iowa- 2002- 11-2, 2003 10-3, 2004 10-2, 2005 9-2 (the EXACT SAME RECORD AS LSU that year), 2008 9-4, 2009 11-2, iowa had 5 seasons out of 10 with over 10 wins

LSU- 2000 8-4, 2002 8-5, 2004 9-3 2008- 8-5, 2009 9-4. LSU had 5 seasons with UNDER 10 wins out of 10
for a team that is supposed SO MUCH HIGHER than iowa as you portray...its really not. we dont get that suc guarentee of a NC even if you lose one or two games like your conf gifts to your teams

Wait, don't go, Red.  I thought you promised to be my boyfriend in your earlier post.  I wonder if you will be this arrogant now that Nebraska has to leave its cushy Big 12?  You know, like you were when you got to play Washington in the bowl game.  Oh wait, you got embarrassed in that loss after destroying them in the first meeting.  My bad.

And Red, I didn't bring up LSU, did I?  That was someone else.  Ironic that you just lambasted someone for not reading your post and then you do it yourself.

Red, anyone with an IQ of 12 or higher knows that since you've resorted to personal insults only, you have nothing intelligent left to say.  Go play with your electricity now.

In the future, LSU, perhaps Iowa should buy its players like the mighty SEC and achieve the greatness that you speak of.  Or at least recruit a dozen more players than it has scholarships so it can choose from a larger group.

Red, how freaking arrogant are you to think that the previous post was all about you?  I think you've had a little too much electricity to the head.  Come down from your high horse and stop acting like it's all about you.    What an arrogant cornfusker.
