Janoris Jenkins busted with pot again

Florida cornerback Janoris Jenkins has once again been busted by Gainesville police for marijuana possession. Barely more than a month after Jenkins appeared in a courtroom to deal with an arrest for marijuana possession, Jenkins was caught with a joint in his car early Saturday morning. According to the St. Petersburg Times, Jenkins had been smoking a cigar in a car parked in a parking lot. When Jenkins saw the police, he put the cigar down, got out of the car and walked away.

The police then found the cigar in the center console of the car and found that it was not filled with tobacco. According to the Gainesville police department, Jenkins was given a notice to appear in court for possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana.

What remains to be seen is how this will be handled by Florida. Jenkins did not serve any kind of suspension due to his first marijuana arrest, as he was already missing spring practice following shoulder surgery. Still, new head coach Will Muschamp has said that he plans on instilling a new culture in Gainesville, and one that doesn't turn a blind eye as often as Urban Meyer seemed to.

Another factor to keep in mind, while Jenkins has been nailed with weed twice in the last three months, this is his third arrest since coming to Florida. He was also arrested for resisting arrest and getting into a fight outside a Gainesville night club in May 2009. I'm not sure Muschamp will take that offense into consideration seeing as how it took place before he came to Florida, but you have to think that being arrested twice in three months is not the best way to introduce yourself to your new head coach.

There's a good chance that if Muschamp decides to make an example of somebody, then it could be Jenkins.

Everyone knows that smoking weed is no big deal.  You are cited and released.  When you go to court, you are fined the first time.  Second time offenders may get some time.  All of that is besides the point.  What you people in here seem to conviently forget is the point that he broke team rules twice in a very short perioed of time.  That is the important thing, and that is why he as to be kicked off the team.  He is just another ignorant kid who thinks he can get away with whatever he wants because he can play football.  If Muschamp wants any respect at all from his players, he has to show them that he is the boss.  Kicking this idiot off the team is the way to do that.

This kid has to go - now.  If for no other reason, it should be a point of dignity for Florida.  I hoped Muschamp would make his mark by bringing in a better level of conscience to a program that seemed to care a lot more about winning than anything else.  He has his chance to prove that now.  I guess we will have to wait and see.

PS - And NO, "having some weed" is not the end-all of the world.  However, a kid that doesn't seem to respect or won't even learn to respect any level of discipline is certainly an issue that needs to be remedied.

Janoris Jenkins busted with pot again

Time for Janoris to leave The University of Florida... Wasted time... Wasted talent... Wasted life... Perhaps he'll do better selling drugs on the street corners of Gainesville...

When anyone (including any of us reading this) does something wrong, it could be considred a mistake... What we have here is a behavioral pattern that he keeps revisiting and that WILL NOT CHANGE...

they are smoking some serious weed down in florida---who's leading right now in arrests:  miami, florida or fla state?  It could be a battle to the end with all those smokers on these teams.

Watch out for UConn...they are a sleeper in this race.

Janoris Jenkins busted with pot again

This is frustrating. I wish more people would educate themselves. The people saying this young man should be thrown off the team are way off base. Drunk driving, yes, I agree 100%. People get SERIOUSLY hurt or killed drinking and driving. People go home and beat up their wives after a night of drinking. But pot? Come on. I would like to hear the terrible crimes people commit while smoking pot. It's truely outrageous that people still get in trouble for this. For a natural drug, it certainly has the potential to treat may ailments. See for yourself: http://www.foxnews.com/health/2010/

03/10/cannabis-deficient/

Don't turn a blind eye and dismiss it because "D.A.R.E" told you it's bad, EDUCATE yourself. I used to think negatively towards it myself, but recently have learned it's not as bad as I thought it was - in fact, I don't think it's bad at all. Look at it objectively. Was he smoking and robbing someones house? Did he have weapons on him? Did he get in a fight? Did he crash his car? Was he causing harm or disturbing anyone?? Pot being illegal is not right and someday that will change. I welcome feedback
