Janoris Jenkins out at Florida

It was one strike too many for Florida cornerback Janoris Jenkins.

Less than four days after Jenkins was arrested on marijuana possession charges for the second time in as many months, Will Muschamp announced on Twitter that the senior all-conference performer is no longer a part of the Gator program. Tweet the first:

And tweet the second:

While the dismissal of any talented athlete is a shame, Jenkins's brings about an extra shake of the head; he initially declared for this year's draft and could have gone as high as the top 15 had he convinced teams his first arrest (after a nightclub altercation in 2009) was behind him. Jenkins chose to return to Florida instead ... and now is neither in the draft nor with the Gators.

Of course, there's no one to blame for that situation other than Jenkins. Muschamp arrived on campus promising to crack down on the petty arrests that marred Urban Meyer's tenure, and given the back-to-back nature of Jenkins' marijuana offenses, he had little choice with Jenkins if he wanted to live up that promise. Losing a player of Jenkins' caliber always hurts, but between Jeremy Brown and Moses Jenkins (no relation we're aware of), the Gators will be OK.

As for Jenkins, it would seem he has little choice other than to find a hospitable FCS school and try to repair his image before the 2012 draft. Like Muschamp, we'll wish him luck; he'll probably need it.

The next Adam "Pacman" Jones looking for an NFL payday. His contract should be $1 until proven he's worth anything more. Guys like this are a big reason the NFL is in disarray right now.

"Feel better?  You still got busted regardless of whether you're willing to admit it."

Busted for what.  Are you and goIowa the same guy because you sure think a lot alike.  Again I ask, busted for what?

"So you're getting paid by tax money to spend the day commenting on CBS sports.  That's money well spent.  And its odd that you are the one who started the comments about someone getting off the bus and now you think everyone else has anger issues.  You got busted.  Admit it.  You opened your mouth and inserted your foot."

Did you even read what I wrote?  I am a retired Marine.  I get paid that money no matter what I do, as long as I do not end up in prison.  My actual job is completely commission and bonus based.  Your buddy does have anger issues, and I have been busted for nothing.  Have a nice day.

Well, now, we all know how this works.  Law students, frat boys, college hots and your basic student in the dorm can get busted for weed; end up in a drunken stupor, and who cares?      When frat boys throw a drunken tantrum Hollywood makes a movie, Animal House and it’s more popular now than ever.
As a person who went to UF and is now a criminal defense lawyer, I can tell you that... Get busted once with pot in Gainesville, yeah, not that big of a deal.  Get busted a second time within two months?  If you have the wrong judge he might take it as a personal affront or lack of respect for the court system and give you 364 days county time.  Even if you are a frat boy, hottie, etc.

When a journalism student gets collared for some offense, DUI, for example, does the JM College get blamed? Does the JM Dean get called out for not sending the offenders to AA?   Are you joking? But when a Janoris Jenkins gets busted for a misdemeanor he’s a thug, an ignorant lout who has blown the opportunity to get a degree. He’ll show up along with a long list of offenders on   It’s the sports version of .

What’s going on here is that most of these players are teenagers who, like other teens, are known to make stupid decisions.  They’re called on the carpet by legions of HR experts. Who are these arbiters of justice, these remedial psychologists? They’re columnists and reporters who never in their lifetimes have even run an organization of any kind, ever. And, by the way, were it not for these players getting a "free ride" and living the high life on public money, all of it mythology, not a word would be heard.

He will enter supplemental draft later this summer.  Teams will be able to bid on him with what round they would have elected to take him.  The highest bidder will give up that round's pick in 2012 draft.  He may have been a first, but with all his baggage I don't see a team using more than a 3rd round pick on him.

I applaud Florida for resolving this problem the correct way. I know how hard it is for the fans to lose a star player as LSU had the same thing when they had to kick Perrillioux off the team. They will fill the void with another fine player I'm sure. Maybe South Carolina can follow the lead and handle Garcia. Don't let the SEC get any more bad press.

Another Negro wasting a college opportunity.  Heck, like he had any chances of graduating.

Way to go, bigot. Keep saying the same racist crap and deluding yourself that everyone fits into your tidy stereotypes.
