A report by Joe Schad of ESPN today indicated that North Carolina defensive end Quinton Coples is gaining unwanted attention from the NCAA after he was seen in online pictures from a post-draft party earlier this month. Coples is with former North Carolina players Marvin Austin and Robert Quinn in the pictures, and a man the NCAA has investigated as a possible runner for agents is also visible in some pictures.

The issue here is that the party was held in Washington D.C., and that Austin and Quinn were both barred from playing in 2010 after having taken illegal benefits from agents. That Coples would show up at such a party is enough to garner the NCAA's attention, though there's no indication as yet that his eligibility is in doubt. Still, he's got some questions to answer:

Photographs of Coples with Austin and Quinn that appeared on Facebook and the web site prompted the inquiry. The party is labeled as taking place at "Ultrabar" nightclub. Also seen in photos with players is at least one alleged runner the NCAA has investigated.

The NCAA wants to know how Coples paid for his travel to the party, who paid for his admission and his hotel, and if he accepted any free food or drink.

This sort of controversy is the last thing North Carolina needs after the massive scandal of illegal benefits cost 13 players (mostly high-profile starters) their eligibility, UNC assistant John Blake his job, and agent Gary Wichard his license. Head coach Butch Davis saved his job by acting swiftly once the illegal benefits were discovered and not participating in any objectionable behavior, but if this type of problem continues to cost North Carolina's top players their eligibility, UNC administration officials may have significantly less patience for Davis this time around.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Tarheels... But why the heck would Coples do something so stupid in public? Nothing wrong with celebrating with his friends after the draft; but at a party in D.C. with sketchy runners?  I'm beginning to wonder what "changes" Butch made in his policies that were set up to better keep tabs on players.  Apparently, it isn't working.

Really? He's at a party celebrating with his teammates for getting drafted. Is the NCAA really trying to be the Supreme Court? Here before too long no NCAA athlete is going to be able to walk down the street or take a sh!t in the same building as anyone who might have connections to the professional level or that particular sport. The NCAA needs to get over itself.

The NCAA needs to leave UNC alone and go after big time
offenders. They may do some things wrong but most of the wrongdoing is being done by big time college football schools. They need to investigate OU, FSU, Florida, Alabama, Auburn, etc. These are the schools they need to investigate and leave the Tarheels alone already. I believe that half of the stuff their saying is made up.

This is all a result of hiring Butch Davis. The guy is the Calipari of college football. He tarnishes a classy school like UNC. I was shocked they hired this bum but they must've been tired of getting their heads beaten in all the time in 2006 so they sold their soul to the devil so they could win one bowl game lol.

The NCAA is a Joke!!  How does Ohio State get to play those players in the bowl game?  Or Tressel still coaching at OSU?  He purposely withheld information and lied about it!  Lends credence to what maurice Clarrett said about Tressel!!!  And why the hell are they always in the BCS championship game(almost always)?  They get smoked just about every time!  They suck!  Tell me they dont have some pull at the NCAA!!!  Unfortunately, they are nothing more than greedy individuals using young individuals for there own financial gain!!  You cant tell me the NCAA does not know that kids get paid by boosters, alum, agent gophers, have bookreports, term papers written for them, tests.  Seriously, we are talking about some kids barely meeting the requirements to get into college but some how end up at some of the top universities, some barely scoring 800 on the SAT's and all the sudden they are asked to read a 300 page book and a 20 page report, Yeah, okie dokie??  Not being mean just the reality!!!    It's all about not getting stupid and caught!!  See no evil, hear evil... your toast!!

The first time I started to see the NCAA for what it is was when they made Jeremy Bloom of Colorado ineligible because he got sponsor money to ski in the Olympics!  WTF?!?!?  This was setting an example!  Talk about holding a man down!!  He had the talent to ski in the Olympics and play football, what it takes, the commitment to accomplish this and in a blink of an eye, this group, ASSoc. whatever, kills your ambitions!!!

I'm not a fan of Bloom, except respect for his accomplishment and ambition.  This is when all of college sports kind of died for me!!  I'll watch the big games but dont really watch anymore, highlights mainly.

These days, Im having a hard time differentiating the Fed Reserve, to big to fail banks and the NCAA!

On a positive note...I started reading Seal Team Six!!  thought, Seal Team Six vs NCAA??

Nothing wrong with this! Again, NCAA stands for "NATIONAL COMMUNISTS AGAINST ATHLETES"!
