Less than a month ago, the college football world was rocked when N.C. State announced that quarterback Russell Wilson requested, and was granted, a release from his scholarship with the Wolfpack. Head coach Tom O'Brien wished Wilson the best, but insisted that his starting quarterback for 2011 was junior Mike Glennon. Wilson has one year of football eligibility remaining, and has quietly begun looking into potential relocation destinations.

According to ESPN's Joe Schad, Wilson will be visiting Auburn today. He has an off-day from his current post as second baseman of the Asheville Tourists, part of the Colorado Rockies organization. His commitment to the Rockies and his potential football availability are both unknown at this point in the process. The Rockies believe that he will finish the season with the Tourists, which lasts until Sept. 5. Other reports have stated that there is as much as a "95 percent chance" Wilson will be playing football on-time in the fall.

If Wilson, an all-conference caliber quarterback, joins the Tigers he will step right into the same system that highlighted the skills of 2010's Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton. According to Schad's report, Wilson arrived at Auburn Monday night and will spend all day with the coaches. Offensive coordinator Gus Mahlzan would be able to plug in Wilson to his high-octane system and let the experienced signal-caller make plays down the field. Head coach Gene Chizik has made no comment on the issue.

Report: Russell Wilson visiting Auburn today

The man's got his head in the clouds.  He needs to quit screwing around and focus on the MLB.  Auburn will be stupid to take him.  Let's not forget which conference he was in for those 'amazing' stats.....

Report: Russell Wilson visiting Auburn today

Russell Wilson should go play for Harvard or some other Ivy league institution, or academic elite university that has a football program.  His football career will be over after playing NCAA ball, he's not good enough for the NFL.  It's in his best interest to strengthen his resume for a job and life after football, and having Ivy league school experience on a resume will open more doors.  His NC State education will serve him very well, he's worked hard for that.  Adding Auburn experience on an existing resume with NC State will not help.

Congrats to Wilson and I hope he succeeds whever he lands. It's too bad he didn't realiez earlier that his future was NOT in baseball. Then maybe he'd still be at NCSU. Either way the program had to move on and I have no problem with the decision. Glennon was a highly touted recruit and it's time to see what he brings to the football field.

Rivers did play at N.C. State, but he did not get them very far because he did not have very much help around him.  I just wonder how he would have done at an SEC school.

My worst nightmare as a Pack fan and as someone who is not even close to an Auburn fan. The kid can play for sure.

We did have a guy named Philip Rivers that was pretty good too.

Hows the Auburn baseball team? haha. What a joke NC STATE is for letting there best player just walk away and go with an unproven youngster at QB. If Wilson was putting up 30td seasons with the Wolfpack, i can only imagine what he can do with the Tigers. Cam Newton Jr?

Nice post and agreed that Wilson would be a superstar in Auburn.  Wilson's athleticism and strong arm would bode well in Auburn's offense as well as the SEC.
