Report: Holgorsen in six alcohol incidents

Almost as soon as the news leaked that new West Virginia offensive coordinator and coach-in-waiting Dana Holgorsen had been kicked out of a Charleston-area casino in the wee hours of a weekday night, rumors started flying that this was hardly the first such incident for the offensive whiz. And now one West Virginia newspaper is willing to put those rumors into print.

The Huntington Herald-Dispatch is reporting that Holgorsen has been involved in "as many as six" alcohol-related incidents in the past six months alone. As they recap:
The Intelligencer/Wheeling News-Register reported Saturday that Holgorsen allegedly was asked to leave both a bar inside Oglebay Park and, later, at Wheeling Island Hotel, Casino and Racetrack earlier this year.

Sources say there was also an incident at Pete Dye Golf Club in Bridgeport, W.Va., which involved Holgerson being told to leave and not come back. And, then, there are rumors of three incidents at the Morgantown hotel in which he lives, including being banned from the hotel bar.

Also, there are allegations he was asked to leave the Union Pub And Grill in Huntington on Oct. 28, 2008.
Even if not all of these allegations are proven accurate, clearly there's enough veracity here to declare the initial casino incident far from an isolated occurence. Even worse, when there's this much evidence of a pattern of this kind of behavior, it throws serious doubts on Holgorsen's statement Wednesday that he would "not put [him]self in that situation again."

To be fair to Holgorsen, he has not been arrested in conjunction with any of these incidents, and there's no record of his performance during his initial spring practice with the Mountaineers being anything less than professional. (In fact, judging by the explosion of points and yards in the WVU spring game, Holgorsen's arrival appears to have been a smashing success.) Taken individually, no one incident even rises to the level of being suspension-worthy, much less a fireable offense.

But taken as a whole, it's difficult to argue Holgorsen's pattern of behavior doesn't indicate that the Mountaineers are handing their program (and millions of dollars) over to a man with legitimate self-control issues. It's far, far too early to make any judgments about Holgorsen's fitness for leadership, or, certainly, his eventual Mountaineer tenure. But if this most recent run-in at the casino doesn't prove to be a turning point for him, that time for judgment -- from an already embarrased athletic director Oliver Luck -- may arrive in an awful hurry.

Don't worry Holgo. The rest of the country is quite forgiving to obnoxious behavior by college coaches. All you need to know is how Bob Thuggins was treated after his Vegas act, Mike Price after the strip club fiasco, Rick Pitino and his 15 seconds of pasta prematura, and Larry Eustachy and his nocturnal activities in frat houses across the Midwest. Dude, you'll land on your feet somewhere, but more than likely will end up on the floor of some 2nd rate casino if you continue your nefarious ways.

Sorry folks, The Herald Dispatch did not make the story up. I would also point out that Chuck does not write for the Wheeling paper.Instead of making excuses maybe Luck should try to get the guy some help before he screws up a promising career.

You do realize that when you are trying to get the facts straight about something as you are, that you come off as ignorant when your jabs at Marshall are not factual.

Holgerson went 1-1 as the OC at Houston and really never came close to 50. 37 in 2008, 28 in 2009. If you combine the two then you get 65 which is more than 50. Is that what you meant?

Good luck once Stewart is gone and the inmates start running the asylum that is WVU football. I predict that Holgerson will not be affiliated with WVU by 2013. He will have either been let go for stupidity, or he will have one good year and go to the Big 12 where he wants to be. Or you might get stuck with him and that oversize contract since most of the Big 12 has a little integrity, either way I will enjoy the drama that Luck created by hiring that fool.

I have some serious problems with this article. First, it was "broken" by the Marshall Thundering Turd newspaper and an author that has had it in for WVU and Oliver Luck in the past. That is indisputable FACT.  The words, "alleged", "allegations", and "according to sources" are used pretty liberally. How about revealing some of those sources? Have the people making the allegations come out ON THE RECORD.  Also, nearly every bar, casino, golf course, or anywhere else has video cameras these days. How about a little more proof and a little less inuendo. Guess that wouldn't be considered journalism. They would have to write an article without using those words I mentioned earlier.

Couple of big issues with this....

The Huntingdon Herald-Dispatch in "as many as six" alcohol-related incidents in the past six months alone. As they recap:
The Intelligencer/Wheeling News-Register that Holgorsen allegedly was asked to leave both a bar inside Oglebay Park and, later, at Wheeling Island Hotel, Casino and Racetrack earlier this year.

The Huntington Herald-Dispatch is the local rag of Marshall University and  the author Chuckie Landon has had no problem in the past slingin mud toward WVU and in particular WVU AD Olliver Luck for his refusal to carry on the football series with MU.

This is just another shot over the bow in an attempt to tarnish WVU.  In the article it was stated "as many as six" and "as few as three" so which is it... 6 or 3... they are throwing things up and seeing what sticks

Holgorsen has a history in Huntingon... yep of hangin about 50 on Marshall when he played them and look for him to do it again behind the reigns of WVU....

and in a state as small as WV if he had this many incidents it would have been all over the place way before he was asked to leave a Casino that by shear coincidence is just 30 minutes outside of Hungtington... go figure

The Intelligencer/Wheeling News-Register

And was written by a reporter who also has an agenda against OL for his firing of his friend LDHCBS ... Lame Duck Head Coach Bill Stewart.... Mr Huff who has written many articles criticizing Ollie Luck also penned the above allegations

In your your poor reporting CBS you state....

that Holgorsen allegedly
Sources say
who are these sources

there are rumors
there are
allegations
so they are allegedly rumors from sources about allegations....  hmmmm sounds like sound reporting to me.... nice very nice way to report on facts guys

"This guy is just trying to fit in. The university is known for their loud mouth, never won anything, a$$hole drunks. He will probably get a statue and a raise if he sets a couch on fire during his next bender. "
This is the quote that I thought was hysterical and true!  Still laughing!

HA!  Greatest post yet and so true!  In West Virginia, it is no big deal to be a drunk because there is not much else to do except coal mining, hunting boar, and in his case, being an incredible coach and offensive mind.  Leave the guy alone because this article and media attention just gave him another reason to tie a load on.  Don't worry coach, your football reputation preceeds you!
