Terrelle Pryor driving with suspended license?

If there was any hope at Ohio State that the heightened media scrutiny on the Buckeyes would relax with Jim Tressel out of the picture, that should be out the window already. USA Today reported this afternoon that Terrelle Pryor, who's already under NCAA investigation for various car-related dealings, actually shouldn't be driving that Nissan 350 Z at right at all, considering that he currently has a suspended license. Here's more:

Pryor's license was suspended last month because he had no proof of insurance when he was stopped by Columbus police for running a stop sign Feb. 17.

"His suspension was related to the Feb. 17, 2011, conviction," said [spokeswoman] Lindsey Wayt Bohrer of Ohio's BMV. "His court date for this was April 2. We didn't receive the paperwork from the court on this until April 14. Then we give the customer 30 days notice before suspending. To lift the suspension, he must show proof of insurance from the Feb. 17, 2011, date. As of now, he has not shown proof of insurance. If he shows proof of insurance, the suspension will be deleted. If he does not show proof of insurance, he will have to pay the reinstatement fee and be suspended through at least Aug. 18."

From what Bohrer explained, even though Pryor failed to show proof of insurance in the middle of February, his license wasn't suspended until May 14, so he's only been driving illegally for fewer than three weeks. Further, he could have the suspension lifted tomorrow if he can prove he's been insured since February. He's a Pennsylvania native living in Ohio, so it's possible that the paperwork is all still out there and he hasn't gotten an opportunity to get it together for the courts yet. Also, there's nothing inherently dangerous about driving with a suspended license, per se; it's not affecting the car's equipment or Pryor's ability to operate it, so the only irresponsibility here is to Pryor himself.

And yet. And yet, and yet, and yet.

This report would seem to further demonstrate that Pryor is of the mindset that he can play by different rules than everybody else. And for the most part, he has been allowed to operate exactly that way during his time in Columbus. Major college football players are pretty much exalted wherever they go, so Pryor's hardly alone, but the man was allowed to drive up to eight different cars (not all at the same time, that's physically impossible) while in Columbus. According to Monday's Sports Illustrated report, he also traded over 20 pieces of equipment for tattoos and, when asked by a tattoo parlor employee where they came from, reportedly told him "I get whatever I want."

At the same time, even if Jim Tressel hadn't yet resigned, this isn't really an issue that should be left at his feet. Pryor's the one deciding to drive on a suspended license, not Tressel, and there's only so much responsibility a coach should take for the everyday decisions of his grownup players. If Terrelle Pryor wants to ball harder than Arthur Bach when he's off the field, that's his choice and the consequences will be his too.

Terrelle Pryor driving with suspended license?

You, Sir, are exactly what I am talking about. You are an Auburn fan that is so caught up with what Ohio State has done that you are flaming someone on a message board. Seriously, either grow up or get a life. You're pathetic.
You were the one that cut everyone down here down that is commenting about your beloved boy Pryor - obvioulsy YOU are the one that has no life, but enough acting like we are 11 years old.

You are right, I am and Auburn fan and as proud of that as you are to be a Buckeye fan. I am also smart enough to know that the Cam Newton situation has not gone away at Auburn and the NCAA and if they get hit, then I will take mylumps and carry on, it is not the end of the world. But unlike Newton (or his dad), Pryor was busted "Scarlet and Grey" handed and now he even has the cahonies to rub everyones face in it. He will eventually be another loser like Maurice Clarett.

All of us sports fans know that EVERY university has their superstars that are getting something from somebody and that will never stop. Just stop making half hearted excuses when your school is the one that gets caught. Thanks to the internet, Bloggers and the pathetic media, it will just get worse year after year.

tOSU fans, face it. Pryor was a bought spoiled brat. Whether or not you bring up Cam Newton. The person that opened the claim was from Mississippi St., a losing university for half a century at football. Auburn's boosters could be dumb enough to get their university a death penalty, that wasn't the case. The idiot tattoo artist drug dealer with the big mouth blabbed basically showed the stuff Pryor traded.
Cam Newton's dad supposedly asked for money. The NCAA investigated because they could have destroyed Auburn (Alabama's one wish). You think the NCAA wanted to get rid of tOSU, a moneymaker in ratings?
Be lucky you're not getting Earle Bruce and that Cooper guy. Then again, Urban Meyer wants to go there.. and with all his problems at Florida, I hope you do get him. Sure you may get a title, but it'll just be a replay of the events you're defending now. Clarett said it was happening (and it continued to happen) and tOSU destroyed his credibility until now. Heck, Clarett did nothing more than Canseco did.
Remember, Tressel did the same thing at Youngstown St., he should have known better.

I'm sure they have no choices.  I mean this just makes them so awful, with no history or tradition.  I'm sure nobdy will ever want to coach at OSU ever again.  Are you serious?  I think Coach Fickell has been thoroughly checked out.  Keep hatin', we will be back.

I think that all starts with parenting there chief.  And his friends, then his coach and teammates.  He is a thug...always will be.  I think Coach tried to help him...isn't that sort of obvious.  Didn't work too well for anyone involved.  Get out of town chump.

and YOU, my sad little man are just a typical homer. Wake up and smell the coffee and whatever else the atheltics department at OSU is shoveling. Maybe your beloved president, G.Gordon Gee(k), should look into scheduling some "SISTERS OF THE POOR" for the next season or two so homers like you will actually have something to cheer about.

Maybe OSU doesn't have any choices about hiring a replacement for Tressel and that is the reason that they have made one of their assistants an interim coach.  BUT don't you believe that the assistant coach had as much knowledge about this situation and allowed it to be covered up as much as the head coach.

You people have way too much time on your hands. Seriously. Get a job or maybe a hobby. You could even volunteer at your local food pantry. Just get a life and stop reading so much into things. Everyone is so damn judgemental. It really makes you no better.

I think it is ridiculous how so many of the Buckeye fans on this board continue to defend Tressel, and now Pryor. I've seen so many posts where the OSU fans deflect and start bringing up Cam and Auburn or Urban Meyer or this other school did this and that. Just suck it up, admit that your program has hit a valley and show some integrity. Geez.
