It may not come as a surprise since most people seemed to be expecting it after USC had its appeal denied earlier this month, but the BCS made things official on Monday. USC has been stripped of its 2004 BCS title thanks to an investigation that began with former running back Reggie Bush. The BCS released a statement.

"The BCS arrangement crowns a national champion, and the BCS games are showcase events for post-season football," executive director Bill Hancock said. "One of the best ways of ensuring that they remain so is for us to foster full compliance with NCAA rules. Accordingly, in keeping with the NCAA's recent action, USC's appearances are being vacated.

"This action reflects the scope of the BCS arrangement and is consistent with the NCAA's approach when it subsequently discovers infractions by institutions whose teams have played in NCAA championship events."

There is no word on whether or not USC will return the crystal football trophy it was awarded after beating Oklahoma 55-19 in the 2005 Orange Bowl. The AP has said that it will not make changes to its poll and that USC will remain the final #1 team on it's poll in 2004, and USC athletic director Pat Haden has said in the past that the school will still refer to 2004 as a "national championship season."

Too right! I think the athletes should boycott the bowl games. The Universities make millions of dollars off of the students who sacrifice their bodies so the suits can get rich. Classrooms in some cases are outdated while the head coaches make millions. It's a business & a corrupt one at that. Lets see the books on the revenue generated by the athletes and where it's really going.
(Not to mention the fact that most of the time the people being punished were in high school when the incidents occurred.)

Now that this is settled the NCAA can now move on to Auburn & Cam Newton. They have nothing else on their plate right now, Ohio State can wait it's turn in line, Auburn, Scam Newton & Cheatin' Chizik are up next.
I hope you're ready Tiger fans, the hurtin's a comin'! You avoided the punishment for now but now the NCAA can focus on you so get ready to hand back that National Championship trophy oh and Scam make sure the Heisman is packed up properly for it's return to the Downtown Athletic Club too.

I'm pretty sure he's referring to the current cases of Auburn and Ohio St.

Give me a break. PAY "STUDENT ATHLETES" and put this issue to bed.

How would you suggest we do that?  You can't ONLY pay football players.

And even if you did, there would still be agents/boosters/coaches willing to give them more.  It would do nothing to curb cheating.

i like the ncaa's idea of punishment. ignore while its happening and collect as much money as they possibly can from it.

How did the NCAA ignore it while it was happening?  That would require them to know it was happening.

From what I can remember, the public didn't know about it until the agent went public after Bush didn't live up to his part of the arrangement.

Really? Who cares? So colleges make millions and millions on the exploits of the so called "student athlete" and we r not expecting "student athletes" to except gifts and money? Give me a break. PAY "STUDENT ATHLETES" and put this issue to bed. All major colleges break the rules. The NCAA makes an example out of a school every now and then to make it look like they police it. One big JOKE!

Good.  20 years from now the only people that will remember that USC won are USC and Oklahoma fans (and maybe Auburn fans).

JoePa does it right, got that!?
One reason why their team has struggled, in the face of the cheating Buckeyes.
You come to Penn State and you do it the RIGHT way, hard work and dedication.
Don't get it twisted!

Purple, I'm sure the team works very hard and is very dedicated to being a clean program. But don't think that Penn State hasn't violated NCAA rules in one way or another - most programs have, they just aren't on the level of Ohio State or USC. Don't go around thinking there are only a handful of programs that violate NCAA rules in one way or another.
