It may not come as a surprise since most people seemed to be expecting it after USC had its appeal denied earlier this month, but the BCS made things official on Monday. USC has been stripped of its 2004 BCS title thanks to an investigation that began with former running back Reggie Bush. The BCS released a statement.

"The BCS arrangement crowns a national champion, and the BCS games are showcase events for post-season football," executive director Bill Hancock said. "One of the best ways of ensuring that they remain so is for us to foster full compliance with NCAA rules. Accordingly, in keeping with the NCAA's recent action, USC's appearances are being vacated.

"This action reflects the scope of the BCS arrangement and is consistent with the NCAA's approach when it subsequently discovers infractions by institutions whose teams have played in NCAA championship events."

There is no word on whether or not USC will return the crystal football trophy it was awarded after beating Oklahoma 55-19 in the 2005 Orange Bowl. The AP has said that it will not make changes to its poll and that USC will remain the final #1 team on it's poll in 2004, and USC athletic director Pat Haden has said in the past that the school will still refer to 2004 as a "national championship season."

USC stripped of 2004 BCS title

Some of you people are just so damn clueless, it's unbelievable.  "Gomexican", do you even know the Reggie Bush story?  Did you read the report at all?  USC didn't provide Reggie ANY of house, no car, NOTHING!  An AGENT who wanted to sign Reggie and take him off to the NFL provided that stuff for his family.  USC was unfairly penalized by the NCAA for not monitoring well enough.  That's it!

Your hatred is blinding.

No one said that Auburn or someone else would be given the 2004 title.  That was made VERY CLEAR MONTHS AGO.   It is what it is, got that cheating arse caught & now it's time to dance with the stars. The 2004 title will be vacated & there will be no recognized champion.

Strip Strip !!!

Yours Truly,

The mighty ncaa.

i like the ncaa's idea of punishment. ignore while its happening and collect as much money as they possibly can from it. a few years later act shocked that this could even happen begin and investigation immediately, tack on a few more years and decide to punish the school as well as the players who had nothing to do with and the coaches who very well may havent had anything to do with it either. and repeat. the ncaa is a joke. as everyone seems to point out this is all for show and doesnt mean squat now that they have already gotten their large chunk of cash for these teams accomplishments.

JoePa does it right, got that!?
One reason why their team has struggled, in the face of the cheating Buckeyes.
You come to Penn State and you do it the RIGHT way, hard work and dedication.
Don't get it twisted!

Come on people.. it doesn't have anything to do with how good of a player Reggie Bush was, or how something did or didn't make him a better player, it's about who he was playing for. He wound up at USC, a big school with a huge football program that could offer him things other schools couldn't. If Oklahoma had been able to offer a bigger house and better car, and he'd taken that, then the outcome of the championship game would have been different, and if that were the case, you'd essentially have a bidding war for talent on signing day. And as for who gets it now, I think I read somewhere that when the NCAA vacates a win like this, it's as if a game never happened, so there will be no awarding of any championship for that year.  Cool

Pete Carroll may be the most overrated coach in this era. He won NO NCs and buried his program. The only bigger loser is that lying scumbag Tressel. Of course, Lame Kitten is USC's coach, so things could get worse. as for Reggie, ahhhh, Reggie, hmmm, I forget his last name. He's was only a flash in the pan liar that is whining over the fact that the Saints drafted a better RB in Ingram. Try the CFL Reggie whatsyourname.

So the BCS and NCAA are gonna take away the BCS Championship trophy that SC won on the field at the Orange Bowl 55-19. Who was the superior team at that time. You could have made an all star team of Auburn and Oklahoma and  SC would still have won.

The might take away the title, which is ok and acceptable. We all know that the case against SC was crap and after 4 years of investigating they could only come up with was lack of Institutional Control. What the hell is that?

Now are the NCAA and BCS gonna take away all the video tapes that were recorded? Are they gonna refund the money of the video tapes they sold as property of the BCS and NCAA?
Do they plan to refund the money the fans and others that attended the Orange Bowl as well as wipe their memory clean. Sorta like erasing history. You don’t have a big enough eraser.

I think not.

I know that all future Trojans from my family will be show the video and explained why the mean ole NCAA and BCS took away the title.

Now that the NCAA and BCS are taking the title back, are they gonna give it to the loser of the Orange Bowl or to the pretenders from Auburn?

Perhaps they will flip a coin to see which of these two losers would get the title.

Ohio State is on deck to be next too. Good riddance to Pryor. Thank god he didn't go to Penn State. Although JoePa would have never allowed this crap.

NYfan - are you serious? I'm sure this same crap goes on at Penn State just as much as it does at most D-I schools. Maybe not to the same degree, but don't pretend that this only happens at USC and OSU. I'm sure Paterno is guilty of rules violations, but they have either been ignored or not discovered.

I like what the coaches from the SEC is trying to do even thou it won't pass about paying their players. So what if Reggie Bush recieved improper benefits. Did that make him a better player or did that make him Superman? No, I don't think so. He was just the best player in College Football that year. I can see if he was using steroids, but he wasn't. Now, all the schools that have won NC, I bet someone on those teams has gotten some type of improper benefit. They just haven't been caught or been ratted out and probably won't. Even thou these kids get scholarships to go to school I think they should get some type of payment. Look at all the money the schools get from them by playing the game, no matter what sport it is. USC IMOP are still the Champs.
