Singer Patti LaBelle has filed a countersuit against former Army cornerback Richard King.

As you may recall, King recently found himself in an altercation -- there is video of the incident in our original post -- with some of LaBelle's bodyguards at a Houston airport earlier this month. An altercation that resulted in King suffering a concussion and being suspended for a year from the football team, effectively ending his football career at West Point. As if all that wasn't enough, King was also sent into active duty.

Now, following the lawsuit that King filed against LaBelle, LaBelle has filed a countersuit against King.

LaBelle claims in the suit that King peppered her with racial insults before she ordered her bodyguards to beat him up, for which he is suing her.

King reportedly was beaten while he was in his hometown, Houston, for spring break on March 11. According to a lawsuit filed by King, he was beaten after LaBelle thought he was standing too close to her luggage at the airport.

At the time, LaBelle’s people claimed that King – who would have been a fifth-year senior this fall – was drunk, disorderly and causing problems.

I guess giving King another concussion -- one of many he has suffered from, as he missed his entire junior season due to concussions -- while having her security guards beat him down and then getting him sent into active duty wasn't enough.

As I said in my original post on this story, I'm inclined to believe that if the Army has sent King back into active duty that there must be more to the story that we have not seen or heard. Still, when watching the video of the altercation, to me it doesn't look like King was doing anything that warranted the beating he received. I've no idea what, if anything, he said to LaBelle or her bodyguards as there's no audio, but I believe King has suffered enough -- maybe more than -- for whatever happened that day.

To file a lawsuit against him, even if it's just retaliation for the one he's filed against LaBelle, seems plain cruel to me.

LaBelle files countersuit against Army's King

Ms. LaBelle must be out of her mind to file this countersuit. Based on the video she doesn't have a very strong case; and, in the court of public opinion it appears the video has pretty much made up the minds of 90% of the posters on this issue against her, IMHO she should, because of ethical, moral, and especially BUSINESS considerations, be trying to do everything to quickly and quietly settle with King and hope that all the bad publicity stops. And she
is instead fanning the flames!

My opinion is that this shows just what a bad person LaBelle really is and that she really has an over inflated ego that has her and those around her way out of touch.

If you fell as I do, and you want to help Cadet King then write Patti:

info@pattilabelle.com

and let her know how you feel. Perhaps if there is an overwhelming negative response in her Inbox as a result of her filling a countersuit, maybe she will have a change of heart and start doing the "right" thing.

She is full of it!!!

I saw this video. The kid was in no way acting in a threating manner when he was attacked by her thugs. She is an over the hill, ugly, irrelevant slob and she and here goons should have been arrested. It's of course not above her to play the race card.

As an active duty person ive seen some dumb drunk soldiers do some dumb stuff. But that video says alot. She was in no harms way for her to be protected. Plus, there is procedures for protection and they went straight to ten. Lets say he did use racaial slurs. If we beat up every person that called me something racial Id be in trouble alot. We tell are kids about this everyday, do we need to break it down into a Dr. Seuss picture book for her and her bodyguards or can we be the big kids and admit your wrong, not such a role model anymore if you ask me. You should be having fun with community service Ms. LaBelle. Atleast. I HOPE!

The security tapes show the kid to be a victim here.  Ms LaBelle should apologize, make a cash settlement, and then her bodyguards can join the kid for a beer summit at the White House.

Mutts/Bodyguards are there to keep you away from the starletts not beat you up if your just talking trash, they have their professional ethics too also the threat of lawsuits.  Before yall go off on a tangent you all should read the military times about this story then come back and write, stop guessing, no one has said anything about race, this is more of a story of bodyguards doing what they are paid to do protect their client against all individuals including drunk soldiers.

Unbelieveble. Where in that video is Patty in danger physically and need to be protected? By their own words in the lawsuit, he was allegedly using words--- that's not a reason to send the henchmen to beat some one up.

Some people will spin anything to play devil's advocate......

LaBelle files countersuit against Army's King

I see a guy talking on his cell phone and a GOON beating him up for NO reason.

+++

what probably happened

some wanna be queen, tells the white guy on the phone to get the f away from her stuff

he looks up and says what did you say? or you talkin to me?

she tells the goon to move him away

they do and

that's it.

I think she will lose in court or settle before it ever gets there.

of course the diva is NOT known for brains, just voice...

Wow way to spin a story to make one side sound like a victim. First of all everyone who goes to West Point goes into active duty that's kind of the point of ROTC. Second do some soul searching if you think she just walks around looking for military football players to beat up. Clips of a video never tell the whole story.

How about sending LaBelle on a bus tour of Afghanistan. I'm sure the troops would give her and her thugs the security they deserve.
On the other hand even the Taliban is not deserving of these cretins.

LaBelle files countersuit against Army's King

Maybe someone should beat up Patti LaBelle...or atleat her fashion consultant.  This is gonna be thrown out immediately, it has to.  First off, how is it ok to "order" your "bodyguards" to assault someone in a public space?  Are you kidding me, how is that acceptable?  The kid has his cellphone to his ear and doesn't appear to be making any threatening gestures.  This is crazy.  Any street, anywhere in America if these are the circumstances, it's assault.  Unless, somewhere here, the kid spits on someone, this is pretty simple. Plus, everyone in LaBelle's crew seems to be getting quite a laugh out of all this...all I see is smiles.  It also appears at the end of the video, that Houston police are posing for pictures with this fashion victim.....what an embarrassment
