The Oregon football program took a beating on Friday when a Yahoo! report carpet bombed the entire program with allegations by scouting service owner Willie Lyles. Lyles went into detail about his relationship with the school and recruits he helped Oregon land, such as Lache Seastrunk and Heisman finalist LaMichael James. Lyles even addressed the infamous outdated scouting report that Oregon paid him $25,000 for. That report brought all this attention to the school and to Lyles.

As you'd expect, the school issued a statement about the story on Friday evening, though it didn't say much of anything.

“The University of Oregon athletic department has and will continue to fully cooperate with the NCAA inquiry,” athletic director Rob Mullens said in the statement. “Our department is committed to helping the NCAA in any way possible and until their work is complete, we are unable to comment further.

“Oregon athletics remains committed to operating a program of integrity.”

If Mullens and Oregon are really committed to operating a "program of integrity," well, I know of at least one step they can take.

Oregon releases statement regarding Lyles

The NCAA goes up the rear ends of every school who is winning a lot, or all of a sudden winning. Everyone in the Pac 10 said UW was dirty back in the early 90's when they tried to take them down, USC faced it (but it helps that they WERE actually guilty), and Oregon is finding out how it feels to be in that hot seat.

If there is any lesson to learn from all the recent investigations it is if you are going to enter the spotlight on the field, you had darn well be sure there isn't anything in your closet and if anything comes up confront it head on and be honest about it early.

If chip lied he has to go, even if the event in question itself isn't nearly as bad as USC, or even OSU for that matter. The good news for Oregon is they built this program before Kelly was at the helm and they still have the coach who built it on campus.

As an Oregon hater I'd like to see this end their run, but it doesn't have the look/feel of being that dramatic.

@ Big Daddy TD

You're right.  "you can’t even compare this to what USC did."  What Oregon did was WAY WORSE that what USC did.  Buying a recruit gives a school an UNFAIR COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE.  Chip Kelly has to be fired over this.

Are you Kidding me. Bush gets a $750000 house for mom and dad. McKnight gets a SUV Mayo gets a $50000 Credit Card. Who BUYING THE RECRUITS!

You must be a USC fan.

First off I am a Duck Fan and this PISSES me off. The $25,000 they paid isn’t illegal. Stupid but not illegal. So why try and cover it up CHIP. You F&^%$&G idiot. Just tell the truth takes your lumps and move on. With that said you can’t even compare this to what USC did. It looks a little likeOHIObut not USC.

Hopefully, he has learned a lesson from Jim Tressel. If JT would have told the truth up front tOSU, more than likely, would have 1 vacate, kicked some players off team and had a mediocre, bowless season. Instead he lied, story grew legs and now the house is on fire.

Agreed.

Here lies the expected, "we ain't guilty, and we is after integrity" press release.

This is looking bad for Oregon, and if Kelly tried to cover this up, he's gone.

The Stonewaller's Bible 3:16 says, "thou shalt make an innocuous press release about cooperating fully with the NCAA Friday evening on a holiday weekend when nobody is reading, watching, or listening."  Oregon will soon join USC and THE Ohio State University as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of cheating.  It couldn't happen to three nicer schools.
