While the NFL lockout appears to be nearing the end of this extensive process, one legendary linebacker may already be considering a move into the coaching ranks. According to multiple reports, most notably from College Football Talk's John Taylor, "there's a very good chance" Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Mike Vrabel will return to his alma mater and join Luke Fickell's staff at Ohio State.

As Josh Katzowitz from the Eye on Football pointed out, Fickell and Vrabel were roomates when they played for the Buckeyes. Vrabel technically is a free agent, and it is unknown what the market will be for the 35-year-old Pro Bowler with three Super Bowl rings. He started in all 16 games last season, and recently reminded media that he still has time left on the gridiron.

But when the lockout ends and free agency opens, it is possible that Vrabel will find his best fit back in Columbus. He has openly mentioned a plan to return to coaching eventually, and this kind of opportunity might be perfect for a passionate alum looking to aid a scarred program.

I'm no Buckeye fan, in fact I despise them & all of their cheating over recent years [& PLEASE don't ask WHAT CHEATING? Duh! :-)B]. But MAYBE Vrabel & Fickel were never involved in any [but highly doubtful since I'm a firm believer it's been going on a very long time]and MAYBE they'd make some good coaches & ROLE MODELS [the latter being more necessary at Tattoo U.] I will say this about Vrabel though; he has the classic toughguy looking jaw [like a Marvel comic book superhero] & was one heckuva football player. THE osu fans might not want to admit it but they just might need a "superhero" to get out of the mess they're in. Good luck, Bucks! I still despise ya'! Yell- "Cheaters!" Laughing- "Ah! That felt GOO-OOOD!"

legendary [ˈlɛdʒəndər
ɪ -drɪ]adj

1.
of or relating to legend
2.
celebrated or described in a legend or legends
3.
very famous or notorious

Mr. Vrabel is well known in the current NFL fandom.

3 superbowls brings about some cache'.

Catching TD's as a LB and going from a Pittsburgh Steeler part time role to a New England Patriot stalwart makes for newsworthy status.

Say what you want about how he will be perceived years from now, I'd argue that Chip Patterson used the term 'legendary' appropriately here...although one would think that well-known, famed, or renown would be better synonyms since the term "LEGENDS" is a controversial term in sports and especially the NFL...

Mahalo!

Seriously "legendary" is a bit absurd. Pretty good is a more accurate description. The writing here is getting worse by the hour.

Legendary? hahahahaha He was made to look great behind one of the smartest coaches to ever live in Bill Belichick. He played good for a great team during a epic run but by no means was he himself legendary.

"Legendary"??? Maybe in his or Chip Patterson`s mind. But far from legendary in the history of the NFL.

wonder if they will pay this "legendary" linebacker enough to pay his bar tabs or will he have to skip out again and blame it on a mis-communication.  this certainly will heal all the wounds in c-bus.
