Cal, LSU paid less for Lyles' packages

Oregon is not the only school that has paid Complete Scouting Services director Willie Lyles in recent years, though it appears the school was paying much more than the others that Lyles worked with.

According to a report in The Oregonian, Lyles sold similar packages to both Cal and LSU, though neither school paid nearly as much.

Lyles billed California $5,000 for what is described on the invoice as the Complete Scouting Services' "2010 National Package."

On the invoice, it appears nearly identical to the CSS "2011 National Package" for which Oregon paid Lyles $25,000.

The invoices indicate that both the 2010 and 2011 packages include game film and highlight film from the same 22 states.

LSU paid Lyles $6,000 for what the invoice detailed as the "2010 JUCO perState Package" that included game film from California and Kansas junior colleges.

Obviously, this is yet another revelation that doesn't look very good for Oregon. Lyles has already said that what Oregon was paying him for was his access and influence with highly recruited players like LaMichael James and Lache Seastrunk, two players Lyles claims to have helped steer toward Oregon. The fact that Oregon paid five times as much as fellow Pac-12 school Cal did for essentially the same package gives Lyles claims a bit more weight behind them.

That is, unless we're supposed to believe that Oregon just tips really well.

Cal, LSU paid less for Lyles' packages

It seems to me that all these posts have one thing in common. They fail to apply logic and for some reason, they fail to look at the Oregon package as a whole. Oregon fan (I guess) states that Oregon only failed to get the quarterly updates. Or LSU and Cal paid for the same material, just that Oregon paid more. Well I would suggest to all readers that Oregon wasn't purchasing any package or packages. They were paying for the delivery of ball players. They just recognized that paying $25K for no package would make it pretty clear they weren't purchasing anything other than influence with recruits. That's why they were scrambling for some written crap, and crap is what they received.  Lyle says he didn't steer, and then tells Yahoo he basically did. He gives Oregon his plan to move a student from Texas to Arkansas to bypass grade requirements. He works with Oregon to get a commitment signature from another relative other than the mother, because the mother is dead set against Oregon. I'll bet LSU and Cal got what they got in a timely manner. If Oregon got the same package it was woefully late. But they weren't purchasing a package, so they didn't care what it said, or read. The number of visits with a student athlete is limited. Lyle is practically living with some of these kids. And it is clear his relationship with Oregon is hands on. He may as well be an extension of their staff. I don't know if LSU and Cal are happy with what they received given what they now know who Lyle's primary employer was. I can see Lyle saying I didn't steer anyone to Oregon. I just laid all the groundwork that made it possible for therm to go to Oregon, and they were really too dumb to recognize (that is the student athlete) that even when I suggested they look at Oregon, to conclude that I really wanted them to choose Oregon. The fact that they did was purely coincidental.

You miss the part where it says Oregon paid 5 times what LSU paid for the exact same "product". Clearly they weren't just paying for that recruiting package.

This is all ridiculous. All it does is show that Oregon is not the only school participating in an activity that they're being put under the microscope for. Don't penalize Oregon, change the rules if the NCAA doesn't like it.

Everything not sold in WalMart and Target is negotiable. Services industry especially. Oregon aka Nike U doesn't have to negotiate, they got money to burn. This proves nothing.

Dude Lyles has been mentioned with LSU for awhile now. He was one of the main guys in the rumor that Patrick Peterson was asking money from Texas A&M
