If you missed it this weekend, USC running back Marc Tyler popped up on TMZ last week and made some comments that were bound to get him in trouble. Specifically he joked that USC pays its players, saying that Trojans make more money in school than they do in the pros. Well, in a move that should shock no one, Tyler has now been suspended by the Trojans for at least the season opener.

"I was very disappointed when I learned of Marc Tyler's inappropriate comments that were captured by the media last week," said Lane Kiffin in a statement. "That is not the way that we expect our players to represent USC and our team.

"I have consulted with athletic director Pat Haden and I am suspending Marc for our upcoming season opener and potentially further, and in the meantime I am also suspending him from all team activities.

"Although Marc may find this punishment severe, it is imperative we continue to have a high standard for player behavior.  Marc needs to work hard to show us that he can meet the standards of being a USC football player."

Tyler released a statement as well.

"I want to apologize for embarrassing USC, my teammates and coaches," said Tyler. "I am disappointed that I let down all the people who have supported me as I have been working through some personal issues.  After meeting today with Mr. Haden and Coach Kiffin, I realize how my behavior and my statements, even though I was joking, can reflect poorly on so many people.  As a veteran player, I should know that my job is to be an example for the younger guys.  I accept my punishment and I regret that I will miss the opening game of my senior year.   I am committed to doing everything the right way so that I can be reinstated to the team."

USC opens the season against Minnesota on September 3rd.

USC suspends Marc Tyler for at least one game

Would we even be having this conversation if USC had not just gotten busted...Seriously? It is laughable that Lane Kiffin is suspending him for opening his mouth....looks who literally talking - diarrhea of the mouth himself...CONTINUE the standards of their athletes...dont you have to start having them before  you continue them? What is really ironic is most people believe what he said is true...Remember the phone conversation with Joe McKnight...he was innocently bragging that he had a conversation with Reggie Bush and PC and company tried to say he didnt realize what he was saying or something to that he thought it was cool he was talking to RB...he didnt know there was anything wrong with what he did or what he was saying...USC has a new Sheriff Pat Hayden in more Mr. Nice Guy AD ala Mike is a matter of time before LK does the same thing.

USC suspends Marc Tyler for at least one game

Aw Come on; some USC dude states the obvious and we all jump down his throat. I'm sure that meeting with Pat Hayden went really well bro and the CBS Sports family eagerly awaits your next twitter. It's amazing that the stupid and downright embarrassing comments that athletes are compelled to throw out don't cause more problems for their school.

*What exactly did Tyler say that was untrue? This is the same university that paid Reggie Bush and set his family up with a luxury apt. Among a slew of other violations. Some would say this was a Fraudian slip. I just think the player was being honest..........

USC suspends Marc Tyler for at least one game

Marc Tyler is the Starting Tailback at USC.  He IS held to a higher standard.  Those clowns at TMZ got their five minutes but no player will talk to them for the rest of the season.  In addition, future players will know not to associate with TMZ.
To be clear USC did not pay Reggie Bush.  USC boosters did not pay Reggie Bush.  Reggie Bush struck up a deal with an agent 150 miles away from USC that he reneged on when he turned pro.

What Tyler said may ahve been meant as a joke, but nowadays, if you are being interviewed or giving an opinion, you need to think about what you are going to say. He should have known that this would come out. Owing to the problems that USC has had recently, Tyler should not have even tought about utterin these owrds. If alcohol was involved, that make him look even worse. Can I say he would have said the same if he was sober? Don't know about that. Is this practice of paying college athletes happening all over? maybe, but I don't think this to be an isolated incident. This can't end well for Tyler.

USC is one of the highest paid college football teams behind Okalhoma and Texas!Bush was the exception with the house and all! You have to get suspended for telling the truth. So you wont be stupid for anything else coming out of your mouth!

Not only are you not a Trojan fan, which I have suspected for a while now, but I'm 100% convinced that you don't have a frontal lobe.

You criticize USC and its "High Standards" (or lack of in your mind), and then you misspell ACADEMICS.  That's frigid funny, moron
I'm not familiar with "frigid funny".  It must be some West Coast expression.  I'm not sure but it sounds close to the slang term "friggin" or perhaps "frickin" or "freakin".  But I'm sure a USC fan would be too classy to use slang of that nature.  However, be that as it may, if your team, or coaches, or athletic administration gets caught in a notorious wrongdoing, you have to be prepared to take a little sarcastic excrement for a while.  But it will pass.  This is not the first time they've been in trouble.
