If you missed it this weekend, USC running back Marc Tyler popped up on TMZ last week and made some comments that were bound to get him in trouble. Specifically he joked that USC pays its players, saying that Trojans make more money in school than they do in the pros. Well, in a move that should shock no one, Tyler has now been suspended by the Trojans for at least the season opener.

"I was very disappointed when I learned of Marc Tyler's inappropriate comments that were captured by the media last week," said Lane Kiffin in a statement. "That is not the way that we expect our players to represent USC and our team.

"I have consulted with athletic director Pat Haden and I am suspending Marc for our upcoming season opener and potentially further, and in the meantime I am also suspending him from all team activities.

"Although Marc may find this punishment severe, it is imperative we continue to have a high standard for player behavior.  Marc needs to work hard to show us that he can meet the standards of being a USC football player."

Tyler released a statement as well.

"I want to apologize for embarrassing USC, my teammates and coaches," said Tyler. "I am disappointed that I let down all the people who have supported me as I have been working through some personal issues.  After meeting today with Mr. Haden and Coach Kiffin, I realize how my behavior and my statements, even though I was joking, can reflect poorly on so many people.  As a veteran player, I should know that my job is to be an example for the younger guys.  I accept my punishment and I regret that I will miss the opening game of my senior year.   I am committed to doing everything the right way so that I can be reinstated to the team."

USC opens the season against Minnesota on September 3rd.

HIGH STANDARD , bwa.....ha...HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. "high standard" and ANYTHING USC (sports or acedemics) is incongruent, the 2 are mutually exclusive. Not only do you get a crappy education for your 1/2 a hundy, but you are paying that for some thug bro to runaround as your PR guy!!
Romey had it right years ago with calling it "SC-CC" as in city college. Ahhh, back to the good old days of 4 win seasons and watchin pompous ass SC grad keep his grill clamped.

Hey Beavis, next time you may want to double check your facts before you make an ass of yourself. USC is ranked 23rd in the nation academically. Furthermore, list some favorite teams before you pop-off.  Nice grammar by the way, and let's all take notice of your hero for God's sake, "Romey.".....Romey! LOL!!

You're a glowing example of what happens to kids when they drop out of school in their early teens.

You criticize USC and its "High Standards" (or lack of in your mind), and then you misspell ACADEMICS.  That's frigid funny, moron.

The comment can't be taken seriously?  Really TW200?  You do realize USC is under sanctions right now FOR a player getting paid?  Although the remark was flippant and I agree most likely not serious it showed very, very poor judgement to even say it much less to a camera guy.  When your under penalties as harsh as USC is under right now you bide you time and fly under the radar until you can regroup and move forward again.  NOT pop off a smart alec comment to a cavera guy on a night out.

You have got to be kidding me. A kid jokingly says something dumb, while trying to be funny, that can't possibly be taken seriously and he gets suspended. Tyler you are the Trojan that is being made the example of. I wonder who's idea this was to suspend the kid?

I have never been a fan of Kiffin, but I will say that he, the player, and the school handled this perfectly.  USC knows they have a bullseye on their backs, and they do not need to be distracted by this silliness.  As an earlier poster said, this is real punishment, and Tyler will have to serve it.  I cannot believe I am writing this, but good for USC.
