USC suspends Marc Tyler for at least one game

If you missed it this weekend, USC running back Marc Tyler popped up on TMZ last week and made some comments that were bound to get him in trouble. Specifically he joked that USC pays its players, saying that Trojans make more money in school than they do in the pros. Well, in a move that should shock no one, Tyler has now been suspended by the Trojans for at least the season opener.

"I was very disappointed when I learned of Marc Tyler's inappropriate comments that were captured by the media last week," said Lane Kiffin in a statement. "That is not the way that we expect our players to represent USC and our team.

"I have consulted with athletic director Pat Haden and I am suspending Marc for our upcoming season opener and potentially further, and in the meantime I am also suspending him from all team activities.

"Although Marc may find this punishment severe, it is imperative we continue to have a high standard for player behavior.  Marc needs to work hard to show us that he can meet the standards of being a USC football player."

Tyler released a statement as well.

"I want to apologize for embarrassing USC, my teammates and coaches," said Tyler. "I am disappointed that I let down all the people who have supported me as I have been working through some personal issues.  After meeting today with Mr. Haden and Coach Kiffin, I realize how my behavior and my statements, even though I was joking, can reflect poorly on so many people.  As a veteran player, I should know that my job is to be an example for the younger guys.  I accept my punishment and I regret that I will miss the opening game of my senior year.   I am committed to doing everything the right way so that I can be reinstated to the team."

USC opens the season against Minnesota on September 3rd.

Getting suspended one game may sound like a slap on the wrist. But this is a REAL PENALTY; no way he gets paid when suspended. It probably cost him $$$.

This guy seems like an uneducated idiot. Clearly he wants to put another bulls eye on USC and get the NCAA's attention. I don't see how he was joking or how it could be funny.

Silly player to think HE could disrespect the University Of Spoiled Children. That type of behavior is saved for the coaching staff and AD itself!

Only thing that is sillier is ANYBODY that thinks this type of behavior is ONLY indicative of the USC. It is the Norm in big-league schools, not the exception.

USC just happened to get caught.
