UCF quarterback Jeff Godfrey was arrested by campus police on Saturday night for driving on a suspended license.

According to the officer that pulled over and arrested Godfrey, he knew that Godfrey was driving on a suspended license because he'd already given him a ticket for it on April 9th. The officer also wrote on his report that he felt the tint on the windows of Godfrey's car were too dark.

Godfrey was booked into Orange County Jail on Sunday morning and was later released after posting $250 bail. His court date is set for August 5th.

Godfrey's license had been suspended after he failed to pay two traffic fines in 2009, along with another one last month. His license also expired on May 25th, so even if it hadn't already been suspended, it wouldn't be valid anyway.

UCF head coach George O'Leary is aware of Godfrey's arrest and said in a statement that he has "spoken with Jeff in regards to correcting his driver license status.

Kiss the Big East goodbye because a player was driving on a suspended license because he didn't pay a ticket on time? Give me a freaking break. Crime of the century. The one thing this shows for sure is that UCF players are not getting any improper benefits. Godfrey is the star on the team and couldn't afford to pay a speeding ticket. This is what will happen: In Orlando, if someone has a driving while license suspended charge and gets their license issue corrected (pays the old tickets), the state attorney's office will probably give him a civil ticket and dismiss the criminal charge. This charge can happen to your grandmother. This is not a big deal.

Interesting.  Usually insurance companies are the ones wanting to settle.  It results in lower court costs and you can generally get a dcoument signed which essentially states that the matter is over and cannot be litigated again.

May schools have had a player die including UF and FSU. The reason this one is getting more press is because the judge delcared that the UCFAA was not bound to the limitations on suits against state agencies.  FSUAA and UFAA were considered as such so the most they could get sued for was was a couple hundred thousand.  Because of that, they were able to settle out of court by paying the max.  UCF's insurance company disagreed with the ruling.  That is why it went to court.  The school tried to settle but the insurance company refused.

So I have come to the conclusion UCF is not getting in the Big East anytime soon as if the player death lawsuit wasn't enough negativity he publicly ebarassed his school.  If Houston goes undefeated or 11-2 we can kiss the UCF talk goodbye.
