Any lingering uncertainty there may have been to Terrelle Pryor's status with Ohio State -- and there was some, as far as the NFL was concerned -- has been put to rest, as Ohio State has dropped the hammer on its former quarterback.

Here's the latest news on Pryor from the Ohio State RapidReports feed:

The QB's attorney, Larry James, received a letter from AD Gene Smith on Tuesday stating Pryor would have been ineligible for the 2011 season and that he’s barred from having any contact with the program for five years.

This is good news for Pryor (seriously!). As of yesterday, Pryor still technically had eligibility remaining with Ohio State, and his situation didn't fit the NFL's definition of the "extenuating circumstances" that would allow a player to be taken in the supplemental draft. That, clearly, has changed now.

Of course, the down side is the punishment itself; Pryor is now a pariah of sorts, and being disallowed from contact with his old program for five years pretty much stinks for him. At the same time, there's still a lingering, often nasty resentment among Buckeye fans of Pryor for his role in Jim Tressel's departure, so Pryor might feel more welcome somewhere else for the next few years anyway.

Pryor ineligible, gets 5-year campus ban from OSU

OSU has helped him in a way.  The NFL could say that he has eligibility at any other college, so I don't know how that will play out.  I agree with some of Crimsntide's remarks.  Tressel is responsible for Tressel's actions, nobody else.  I just don't believe that these guys are getting away with things.

Should OSU have withheld this decision until the 5th game of the season?  Why did they let him off the hook?  Why did they cower and bow to a coach who, by their own description, lied to his bosses?  What did he have on you that mad you let him RETIRE?

This entire thing is a joke.  The NCAA is a joke, and I would like to see USC repetition their sanctions after OSU walks away clean.  Actually, I would like to see USC get commitments from several big colleges, leave the NCAA and start a super conference

Pryor ineligible, gets 5-year campus ban from OSU

This is over the top for OSU.  Pryer is banned for 5 years, who cares?  He quit school to go pro.  But the part I really think stinks is OSU once again showing their true colors by helping out those the cheat, saying that he would be ineligible in 2011 so he can enter the supplemental draft.  So if he was going to stay with OSU, the NCAA suspended him for 5 games, but since he decided to get an agent and quit, but was to stupid to make sure that he was able to enter the draft, OSU goes and does another favor for him and states that he would not have been eligible so he can enter the draft.  So they are either lying about him not being able to play to help him go pro, after all the harm he has caused his school, or they were going to lie and allow him to play in 2011 if he had decided to stay.  OSU is just a plain dirty program, all the way to the top.

UKSMITHFAN, you are the POS in this scenario... To wish harm, etc on a person you never met is just pitiful....   It says a lot about who you are... Did you grew up with Pryor and he stole your girlfriend??
I'm not saying he is Joe Montana, but he is a tremedous athlete and physical specimen(6-6" and runs a 4.3)... If QB doesn't work for him, there are other ways to get him on the field...

And being a UK fan, you wouldn't know what a good football player if they bit you on the A$$....  Change your name to UKLOSER, its more fitting

uksmithfan, you are real piece of work. Yeah, Pryor is not a real smart guy, but hoping he blows out his knee is really dumb and shows your intelligence. The guy made a bad mistake that is made by many of these spoiled kids many of which are from very low income families, and whom the NCAA and the university's are making millions off of - all for a "free education" and a small stipend to live on. Yes, rules are rules, but they are archaic and need to be changed a bit. I mean seriously how are "free" tatoos an unfair advantage? They aren't, since you and both could go get free tatoos or trade up something we have for them. Don;t go the car route either. The NCAA proved to this point that the cars were legit. The funny thing is that UM, for example had too much practice time and a few other things that Rich Rod lied about but since they were not winning they received minimal sel-imposed sanctions. If they were winning it would have been ugly. By the way I thought the whole excessive practice was dumb and obviously it didn't help. Good riddance Pryor.

Bust. Major bust....oh, be a major bust, you need to have the expectation of being a good player in the NFL. Here's hoping this POS gets into a pre-season game and blows out his knee.

Gorget about Pryor. He made a big mistake as a spoiled college athlete. We are the ones that make them the spoiled kids they are with everyone telling them how good they are. He will not be a good pro player so his football days are numbered. Great athlete just not a great quarterback for the pro game.

Window dressing is right!  As you pointed out, since Pryor did the exactly the same thing as the other tat5, so why would he be singled out for a 5 year band?

Golly gee, do you think this is just a "helping hand" from tOSU to Pryor so the NFL can rule him eligible for the draft?  Somehow this reminds me of tOSU turning Tressel's resignation into a retirement with life long benifits?   Please, we are not stupid, there must be a quid pro quo for them to do that as no smart business would ever pay out extra $$ to a disgraced, resigned employee without getting something in return.  Any guesses as to what that might be?  Hm........does Tressel know more things that Ohio State doesn't want to come to light?  Could this be the price of silence?

As Marcellus said in the play Hamlet by Sir William Shakespeare, "Something is rotten in the state of Denmark."

Sorry, Buckeye fan, but IMHO, this one just doesn't pass the sniff test.

blame the players too clngr8 - they aren't saints and last time I looked, the were adults. You can't claim they didn't know - there are too many past cases to point to. Their arrogance cost them - as it should. Stop babying these guys. They need to man up and accept what comes. They were stupid and now they're going to pay for it. I guess Big Man on Campus isn't what it used to be.
