Pryor ineligible, gets 5-year campus ban from OSU

Any lingering uncertainty there may have been to Terrelle Pryor's status with Ohio State -- and there was some, as far as the NFL was concerned -- has been put to rest, as Ohio State has dropped the hammer on its former quarterback.

Here's the latest news on Pryor from the Ohio State RapidReports feed:

The QB's attorney, Larry James, received a letter from AD Gene Smith on Tuesday stating Pryor would have been ineligible for the 2011 season and that he’s barred from having any contact with the program for five years.

This is good news for Pryor (seriously!). As of yesterday, Pryor still technically had eligibility remaining with Ohio State, and his situation didn't fit the NFL's definition of the "extenuating circumstances" that would allow a player to be taken in the supplemental draft. That, clearly, has changed now.

Of course, the down side is the punishment itself; Pryor is now a pariah of sorts, and being disallowed from contact with his old program for five years pretty much stinks for him. At the same time, there's still a lingering, often nasty resentment among Buckeye fans of Pryor for his role in Jim Tressel's departure, so Pryor might feel more welcome somewhere else for the next few years anyway.

Pryor ineligible, gets 5-year campus ban from OSU

OSU cheated, they got caught. Pryor's infractions go deeper than just trading merchandise . The investigation is still continuing. As much as I dislike Ohio State, I was willing to believe that Tressel was somewhat above the fray. But this latest move just stinks. The report comes out earlier from the NCAA about Pryor possibly not qualifying for the supplemental draft and lo and behold, he's banned. Life has a way of getting you back and Pryor needs a reality check at some point. Until his ego comes in line with his reality, he'll be doomed to destroy anything in his path. Peace

Pryor ineligible, gets 5-year campus ban from OSU

After what Pryor did to OSU and the Big Ten reputation, this is the last thing that should of been done

After what Pryor did?  Really?  What he did was something that a bunch of players did (trade merchandise for benefits and get car discounts)...the problem for OSU was that Tressel covered it up for months and lied about it to investigators.  Stop blaming the players who are a symptom of the problem and focus on the root cause: a program that, although they may not have encouraged the behavior, they tried to hide it.

Wish they would not have done this so that the NFL could have bared him from the supplemental draft. Hopefully, no one will take him.

I laughed. Mostly because his definition of integrity is not killing whoever catches you in the act of a crime. But yeah its hilarious that a u fan is talking about piece of crap players and coaches and dirty programs. oh well. Ohio state is clean and they just let pryor know they plan to keep it that way with this message. We'll be fine and we'll continue to show the sport and the ncaa what the definition of integrity is. Even in this time of reflection and admission and trials from the ncaa we still maintain our schools top integrity. Class program none better in the nation when it comes to that. O-H!

sullinger,

i honestly hope you were drinking when you made this post.  putting OSU and the word integrity in the same sentence is an oxymoron.  if OSU had 'integrity' -- they would be banning ALL of the players for 2011 and giving those players 5 year bans.  They wouldn't do it to the guy who had left the school for the NFL well over a month ago.  LOL

all they are doing is posturing for the NCAA to try and make it look like they care.  same with the 'self imposed' penalties they originally put on the players and tressel.  remember that 250,000 dollar fine to tressel???  oh yeah -- that was waived.  what does OSU do -- they pay tressel one more check, so he actually makes money to walk away.

my question is -- you do realize pryor isn't the only one in the program who did the EXACT same thing.  care to explain why the others are banned and kicked out of the program?  maybe because they didn't announce they were leaving and will still play this year?  all it is, is window dressing.

i hope you sober up today before responding.  using integrity and class when describing the program going thru one of the biggest NCAA investigation in some time is laughable.

Here's OSU taking care of Pryor yet again. Tressell has been covering for his violations and now the University is helping him get to sit on an NFL bench. Funny how he got thhe ball rolling on making OSU an also ran for a few seasons in the NCAA and Big 10, but they help him to make it into the NFL. Lack of sense and priorities is the tag I would put on the University leadership, not lack of institutional control.

As an OSU grad, I think Smith should get the boot, not to mention Gee.  They never should have asked for Tressel's resignation.

Here's a thought Sullinger000 or whoever you are and the rest of your sweater wearing clan.  Be honest about what you know about your athletic department, it starts here:

http://www.ncaa.org/wps/wcm/connect

/public/NCAA/Resources/Research/

Last time I checked and I have not since April, but I believe ESPN reported that your athletic department had reported the most infractions of any NCAA program within the past five years.  Do your homework.  Your athletics are not as clean as you claim.
