Pryor ineligible, gets 5-year campus ban from OSU

Any lingering uncertainty there may have been to Terrelle Pryor's status with Ohio State -- and there was some, as far as the NFL was concerned -- has been put to rest, as Ohio State has dropped the hammer on its former quarterback.

Here's the latest news on Pryor from the Ohio State RapidReports feed:

The QB's attorney, Larry James, received a letter from AD Gene Smith on Tuesday stating Pryor would have been ineligible for the 2011 season and that he’s barred from having any contact with the program for five years.

This is good news for Pryor (seriously!). As of yesterday, Pryor still technically had eligibility remaining with Ohio State, and his situation didn't fit the NFL's definition of the "extenuating circumstances" that would allow a player to be taken in the supplemental draft. That, clearly, has changed now.

Of course, the down side is the punishment itself; Pryor is now a pariah of sorts, and being disallowed from contact with his old program for five years pretty much stinks for him. At the same time, there's still a lingering, often nasty resentment among Buckeye fans of Pryor for his role in Jim Tressel's departure, so Pryor might feel more welcome somewhere else for the next few years anyway.

Really, this from a University of Miami fan.  I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

I laughed. Mostly because his definition of integrity is not killing whoever catches you in the act of a crime. But yeah its hilarious that a u fan is talking about piece of crap players and coaches and dirty programs. oh well. Ohio state is clean and they just let pryor know they plan to keep it that way with this message. We'll be fine and we'll continue to show the sport and the ncaa what the definition of integrity is. Even in this time of reflection and admission and trials from the ncaa we still maintain our schools top integrity. Class program none better in the nation when it comes to that. O-H!

Pryor ineligible, gets 5-year campus ban from OSU

I'm like most everyone else... this is just stupid.  We all know OSU took a bribe of some sorts from Drew R.  Either Pryor was going to name more names or gave some cash to help seal his trip to the NFL supp draft.  How interesting this happens the day after the lockout ends & they are able to see that there will be pro football to play.  They should had done this long ago... like when he was still in school there.  OSU, Pryorm and Drew all help pervert the system and it makes me sick.  I almost hate the NFL phonies at this point anyway.  I love college ball, but schools like OSU & pieces of crap like Tressel need to have life time bans, the schools that employ these cheats and recruit these cheats need to lose big time cash.. this is the only way to truly clean up the broken college athletics.

The NFL needs to come up with a way to revent dirtbags like Pryor from just saying "OK, I broke rules. I will just go pro." Have a 1+ ban from the draft or something. Only good news here is that Pryor is not an NFL QB by any means. Hopefully he just fades away like Clarett.

Don't you guys see what's going on here? They are setting him up to come back for one last year of eligibility in 6 years. By they all of this fuss will have died down, and he will have a chip implanted in his head that allows Jim Tressel to coach him directly from a hidden bunker in Columbus. It's true. A friend of my cousin saw it scribbled on a piece of scrap paper on Dodd's desk.. or maybe that was just an idea for an upcoming article. Cool

Too funny -- Pryor is banned for all of 2011 AFTER he leaves school and hires an agent.  HAHA!!  Way to drop the hammer OSU.  What about the other guys who were suspended and came back to school???  Why aren't you banning them too?  HAHA!  What a joke.

Next thing is -- They will say Tressel is banned from the program too.

Great point Steelers:

I am not sure what they can do if he tries to make contact with the program. It doesn't seem like they have any actual legal authority.

I don't get something, if he shows up on campus in the 5 year period what happens? Like would the cops pick him up? Pretty big waste of resources and stupid reason to keep a guy away.

Or is that just a really misleading title by the turd bloggers of CBS?
