In a move that everyone knew would be coming eventually, but just weren't sure when, Notre Dame announced on Wednesday that wide receiver Michael Floyd had been fully reinstated to the football team.

"From the very beginning of this process, Michael knew what was expected for him to be a member of our football program," said Brian Kelly in a release.

"Based on my own observations, I am very pleased with the progress Michael has made since March. That is why I am comfortable reinstating him to our football team."

As I said, this does not come as a surprise. When Floyd was able to get by Notre Dame's ResLife disciplinary board back in April without a suspension or even a possible expulsion it was only a matter of time before he rejoined the football team. He was then cleared for voluntary summer workouts with the team over the summer.

Floyd had been arrested on March 20th for a DUI, his third alcohol-related arrest since coming to Notre Dame in 2009.

His return to the team is a huge boost to the Irish offense as Floyd is one of the best wide receivers in the country. In his first three seasons in South Bend Floyd has made 171 catches for 2,539 yards and 28 touchdowns. The 28 touchdowns are already the most by any receiver in school history, and barring an injury or another arrest, Floyd will become the school's all-time leader in receptions and yards in 2011 as well.

I don't really follow what your trying to imply saying that?

Yea, I'm a Louisville fan, does that somehow make it impossible to still criticize Louisville players for doing idiotic things also?  I hate to break it to you, but i'm just as hard on Louisville players who do stupid things like this also.  You can feel free to read all my posts.  I have never once giving any players on teams I cheer for a free pass when they do something wrong.

I'm also a Steelers fan.  You can read any of my posts on the Hines Ward D.U.I situation, and know how disgusted I was over it.

I'm nothing more then one of a incredibly large number of people around the world who have felt first hand what it's like to lose loved ones due to idiots drinking, and driving, and are sickened when we see people get off with hardly a slap on the wrist for doing it.

El Duderino...what are you smoking and is it legal? They did not kill Declan Sullivan and the football player did not rape the girl. Good grief. Where you do get your information the National Enquirier? You are Michigan fan. Enough said. You posters with your judgemental attitude and your high road status need to look in the mirror. I am not going to defend what Notre Dame because frankly no one cares what you think anyway. I bet you have some skeltons in your closet and a little dirt thrown in as well. I am sure had this been a story about a Michigan player you would have taken a whole different approach. At least when you toss the insults around get it right. Rape is a serious accusation and if the DA thought there was evidence of a sexual assault he would have been arrested. As for Declan Sullivan it was a horrible accident that the parties involved will live with the rest of their lives. The young man's family has dealt with his death and with the University. Again enough said. So move on. Save your barbs for the football season.

I'm a huge ND fan, but I have to agree with mickflea. Courage is getting rid of a great athlete after his 3rd alcohol-related violation, not in reinstating him without him missing even one game.

Courage? Its courage to reinstate a guy who BROKE THE LAW not once, not twice, but THREE times? No courage would have been to suspend him from the team even tho is a four star player. Think it would have happened that way if he was a third string recruit?  All ND did was show that they are no different than any other schools "win at all cost" mentality.  To preach forgiveness and try and compare him to the average student is stupid...for one the average student does not get three DUI...and the average student doesnt have as much too lose as Floyd. COURAGE......I THINK NOT.

Congrats to Michael and Our Lady. This was not an easy decision, a young man's life was in the balance and Kelly was under a ton of pressure to make an example of him - he stood firm and a young man now has a chance at a great life. What many don't understand about ND is that they are not swayed by the whims of a public opinion. Good luck Irish, the whole of America will be rooting you on, because of your courage.

C'mon bro.  Pryor sold trinkets and baubles for a smittence of cash.  Pryor broke and NCAA rule -- and a dumb rule at that.  Floyd broke the law--THREE TIMES.  16,000 plus peopld are killed by drunk drivers like Floyd every year.  There are no reported deaths resulting from selling jerseys or tiny gold figurines.  The two are incomparable.  But you are right, eveyone knew that Notre Shame would live up to its expanding reputation and reinstate Floyd.  In other words, we all knew that Notre Shame would do the "wrong" thing.

Another slap on the wrists for Neuter Dame.  Your coach kills a kid, slap on the wrist. Then they have the gall to APPEAL the fine. Arrogant d-bags.  A player rapes a student who then commits suicide--slap on the wrist. Your star WR gets his third DUI--slap on the wrist.

Did Neuter Dame give the BCS and the NCAA a couple extra reach arounds or something?

I'm not saying that what Floyd did wasn't wrong and that he should be punished, but did anyone think that the outcome would be any different?? To get reinstated, he had to follow strict guidelines and regulations. If Coach Kelly was made aware of something that he did to violate these guidelines, he'd be an ex-Irish player now. The NCAA and college football are so bad in enforcing rules it's a joke. Did anyone think that Cam Newton would be declared ineligible last year?? No way!! What about the OSU and PRYOR?? Come on, this wasn't a smart thing that Floyd did, but the coach decided to let him back on the team after completing his team imposed suspension.

Bryan Kelley is, who we thought he was.

He is not going to try and preach the High Road like some did in the Big Ten, but he won't go out bar hopping to lure recurits. He is about winning games; No more -No less. I am just sayin the Video accident last year, and M. Floyd in the pre-season, I'm telling you it might get pretty stinky in S. Bend before it is all said and done.

Hey Michael, with your responses you made Tiger Woods proud today.

I'm glad you decided to get your degree.

Maybe "Public Speaking" would be a good course to add to your curriculum.

Way to go Coach Kelly! Nobody thought he would be reinstated. Wink
