Michael Floyd reinstated at Notre Dame

In a move that everyone knew would be coming eventually, but just weren't sure when, Notre Dame announced on Wednesday that wide receiver Michael Floyd had been fully reinstated to the football team.

"From the very beginning of this process, Michael knew what was expected for him to be a member of our football program," said Brian Kelly in a release.

"Based on my own observations, I am very pleased with the progress Michael has made since March. That is why I am comfortable reinstating him to our football team."

As I said, this does not come as a surprise. When Floyd was able to get by Notre Dame's ResLife disciplinary board back in April without a suspension or even a possible expulsion it was only a matter of time before he rejoined the football team. He was then cleared for voluntary summer workouts with the team over the summer.

Floyd had been arrested on March 20th for a DUI, his third alcohol-related arrest since coming to Notre Dame in 2009.

His return to the team is a huge boost to the Irish offense as Floyd is one of the best wide receivers in the country. In his first three seasons in South Bend Floyd has made 171 catches for 2,539 yards and 28 touchdowns. The 28 touchdowns are already the most by any receiver in school history, and barring an injury or another arrest, Floyd will become the school's all-time leader in receptions and yards in 2011 as well.

At least Floyd didn't key a professor's car, pull a fire alarm, and use a fire extinguisher for no reason...

It's funny because there was a Notre Dame fan calling out the South Carolina Gamecocks for re-instating Garcia just the other day...hypocrite.

ND's "discipline" of Michael Floyd is a good example of a talented athlete getting away with bad behavior.  If this was Floyd's first alcohol related offense, it would be different.  But, this offense was his third, and in driving under the influence of alcohol, he put the lives of others in jeopardy.  I guess that, when the going gets tough, anything that helps your football team wins games takes priority.  Why did I expect any different outcome at ND?

What a surprise the haters come out of the woodwork with their high and mighty attitude...I think these are the same people who were so outraged over Ty Willingham's firing. Please. They didnt give a flip about him and could care less about their feigned integrity and outrage now...Such an obvious smokescreen. Dont like Notre Dame - who cares but at least be upfront about it. As for Michael Floyd I know he was charged with underage drinking and another incident NOT at Notre Dame. His latest offense did involve driving and drinking which is more serious than the other two. I am glad I didnt have the kangaroo court of you posters judging me when I got cited for underage drinking in college...twice. I got probation as did a zillion other students in my day. Not saying you should be drinking when you are underage but lets get real. Michael Floyd passed the toughest tribunal and that is Residence Life. I know he realizes how close he came to being kicked to the curb. He also had to deal with the court system. Whether they support ND or not the law is the law. In Tennessee where I live he would have gotten probation and we have one of the toughest DUI laws in the country. As for your response Trojan fan...Seriously? you with all the issues with USC are calling ND out? Haha...thats a good one.

Just shows when it comes down to it, ND is no different than any other program.  Obviously he was going to be reinstated, like every other program does.  This just ends the "ND is different, we have a higher standard" comments we here all the time.  Again cant fault ND for doing this, everyone does, they just need to realize they do not have a higher standard and are like every other program out there, doing what they have to do to win.

WHO CARES ABOUT DISCIPLINE?

NOTRE DAME IS MY FAVORITE UNIVERSITY AND I LOVE WATCHING NOTRE DAME FOOTBALL.  HOWEVER, THIS DECISION IS WRONG!  IF THIS WAS HIS FIRST OFFENSE WITH ALCOHOL THEN I WOULD UNDERSTAND BECAUSE I BELIEVE GIVING SOMEONE A SECOND CHANCE.  BUT THIS IS THE THIRD TIME HE HAS BEEN CAUGHT AND NOTRE DAME NOT ONLY ALLOWS HIM TO STAY IN SCHOOL BUT LETS HIM BACK ON THE TEAM.  WHO CARES ABOUT DISCIPLINE ANYMORE?

Must be good where is your high pedestal that Notre Dame sits on now? We all knew he was going to make a magic recovery less than twenty days before the season starts to he can make it to all the practices. Seriously just sad you can make hate comments about USC all you want but when our players get in trouble the miss games ask Baxter and Tyler.

And guys no one is hating on ND like they actually won ten games recently. People are laughing at ND fans who act like the school is so high and mighty because of it's religous affiliation.

Michael Floyd reinstated at Notre Dame

I miss the Notre Dame that had integrity and would boot somebody off the team for having multiple alcohol related offensives.  I guess subpar recruiting and coaching has turned this program into a more desperate program. Will Notre Dame turn into a typical SEC school and do almost anything to win including sacrificing integrity?  It seems that way.
