UPDATE: The Sporting News is reporting that a "high-ranking SEC" source says the report of Texas A&M accepting an invitation to the SEC is "just not true." So there goes that. For now. Prepare yourselves for a new report on Friday saying that A&M is going to the SEC.

There has been a lot of talk about the possibility of Texas A&M leaving the Big 12 to join the SEC in recent days. However, that's all it has been: talk. Rumors spreading throughout the internet like wild fire with some saying that it's going to happen and other saying they believe Texas A&M is bluffing.

Well, now there's at least one site reporting that it's a done deal and Texas A&M will be leaving the Big 12 for what it sees as the greener pastures of the SEC.

According to -- a subscription site -- Texas A&M has already decided that it will join the SEC, but it can't officially announce the move until August 22nd. As you'd expect, this report has generated a lot of response online with some people buying it completely, and others expressing serious doubts.

Personally, I fall on the side of the line filled with doubt. As Aubrey Bloom of Gigem247 tweeted, this is the same website that reported A&M to the SEC was a done deal last year, and said as recently as a month ago that there was no chance that the Aggies would leave the Big 12. I'm also bothered by the fact that this story is behind a subscription wall and has only one source.

If you were that confident in the information, wouldn't you want to put the story somewhere the entire world could see it, and not just on a message board for subscribers?

Now this does not mean that I don't think Texas A&M is going to leave for the SEC at some point, nor does this mean I'm saying the report is false. All I'm saying is that I'd approach this story with caution. Until Texas A&M comes out and makes an official statement about its intentions, then everything else is just hearsay.

You would take Kansas State, and either Missouri or Iowa State with you? Since when do those schools follow direction from KU?

Report: Texas A&M to join the SEC - UPDATE

I read the entirety of the Sporting News story, and it definitely conveys to me a tenor of "this is not official.....yet." There are comments about "talking to university presidents" and that an agreement is "still a long way off." If anything it is a tacit acknowledgement that discussions are underway and that getting the member schools on board is merely a "next step." No one in the SEC wants to make it appear the member schools are outside players in this process, especially considering there *must* be another school in play we don't quite yet know about.

Actually, the quote from The Sporting News is 100% consistent with what other sites have been reporting - that *nothing* is official or can be commented on until August 22. This is what ol' Woodward and Bernstein would have referred to as a "non-denial denial." The SEC has to keep things under wraps publicly, even if A&M is stirring the public pot.

If A&M joins the conference I hope they scrap the ties to the Independence Bowl(sorry Shreveport) and add the bowl game in Houston's Reliant stadium to the mix. That would be an upgrade I've wanted to see for years.

It is my understanding that one has to be invited to come into the conference.  You just can't decide that OH, I want to go join the SEC.  Nothing against you TEXAS A&M, but we are happy just the way we are.  Honestly, You guys don't bring anything to the table.  Its best you just stay where you are and sweet talk TEXAS into sharing some of their new TV revenue with you.  Thats the way I see it, not a hater, dont get me wrong, just like it the way it is.......

KU, KSU, and MU to the Big East.  Let's be real.  Thats 20 schools for all the major sports except football.  It wolud be a complete administrative disaster.  They'd have to drop some schools to make it even remotely have a semblence of working...(Providence, Depaul).  I think Nova may just up to FBS before adding more teams.

If A&M is gone, MU, KSU, and KU need to find a new home now or they are in deep trouble.

IF an expanded SEC was to come I could see a GA Tech Clemson in the east and a Oklahoma Texas in the west.  Ga tech is in Atlanta a major TV market and natural fit with the Bulldawgs Clemson does not have as big of TV market but it has a natural fit with games vs S.C. as for Oklahoma they are a no brainer for any conf big program big fan base big money

I guess it is time for KU to pack up and head to the Big East. We should take Kansas State with us, and either Missouri or Iowa State, so that the Big East can be a 12 team football conference.

ok seriously, i dont like conference honks even if they are honking on behalf of the big 10, so yeah that guys is off base - the big 12 is equal to the B1G until proven otherwise, BUT whipped???   whipped.  that game down to nearly the last play and TCU won by 2 points.  how is that a whipping??   i really dont see any shame is losing to TCU for wisconsin or for the conference for that matter.
