UPDATE: The Sporting News is reporting that a "high-ranking SEC" source says the report of Texas A&M accepting an invitation to the SEC is "just not true." So there goes that. For now. Prepare yourselves for a new report on Friday saying that A&M is going to the SEC.

There has been a lot of talk about the possibility of Texas A&M leaving the Big 12 to join the SEC in recent days. However, that's all it has been: talk. Rumors spreading throughout the internet like wild fire with some saying that it's going to happen and other saying they believe Texas A&M is bluffing.

Well, now there's at least one site reporting that it's a done deal and Texas A&M will be leaving the Big 12 for what it sees as the greener pastures of the SEC.

According to AggieYell.com -- a subscription site -- Texas A&M has already decided that it will join the SEC, but it can't officially announce the move until August 22nd. As you'd expect, this report has generated a lot of response online with some people buying it completely, and others expressing serious doubts.

Personally, I fall on the side of the line filled with doubt. As Aubrey Bloom of Gigem247 tweeted, this is the same website that reported A&M to the SEC was a done deal last year, and said as recently as a month ago that there was no chance that the Aggies would leave the Big 12. I'm also bothered by the fact that this story is behind a subscription wall and has only one source.

If you were that confident in the information, wouldn't you want to put the story somewhere the entire world could see it, and not just on a message board for subscribers?

Now this does not mean that I don't think Texas A&M is going to leave for the SEC at some point, nor does this mean I'm saying the AggieYell.com report is false. All I'm saying is that I'd approach this story with caution. Until Texas A&M comes out and makes an official statement about its intentions, then everything else is just hearsay.

Report: Texas A&M to join the SEC

Last time we played ya'll on a yearly basis, it didn't work out too well for ya. Look up 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995 in case you have forgotten! ;)

If this is true I welcome the Aggies. The only problem I for see is how is the SEC going to talk Vanderbilt or for that matter any school to leave. We must be thinking super 14 not 16/ USF fans need to get excited, they maybe the only school worthy of joining and competing in all sports. I just don/t see it Happening..... Rolltide.............

Cmon man. The Big12 has nothing on the Big Ten. Your teams got beat by B1G teams with 2 less wins in the bowls last year. PLUS, we added your 2nd best team. sec, B1G and then everybody else fighting for 3rd

Good for aTm!!!  I do wonder if they will get the same level of venom and resentment from the other 8 schools that Nebraska did...but even CU didn't when they bolted to the Pac12 so i doubt it.  Strange double standard.

Am I  crazy for not being so sure that this is a good idea?   I applaud TAMU for their boldness, and have nothing against that program at all.    It just seems that there is a point when if you kept adding good teams to the best conference, that rather than make it even stronger it might actually water down some of the teams.  there is TONS of talent in the south, yes, but how many teams are vying for it?  just kind of thinking out loud hear.   who knows?  maybe it will work out great for both parties.   I hope that the B1G stops at 12 teams.   16 team conferences is a nightmare for me.  16 teams and only one can win it?  seems like we would want to keep the top 40 teams or so nicely spread out through about 8 conferences, rather than in 4 superconferences, so that more of them can reamin undefeated late in the season, so as to make the race for the championship more interesting.

If Arkansas can win in the SEC (and it has from time to time) then there should be no problem with A&M winning from time to time (basically at an Arkansas like clip). To call them the Vandy of the SEC West is an absolute joke.  Vandy doesn't put money into football as much as the rest of the SEC and Vandy doesn't even have an official athletic department.

ESPN radio in Dallas is reportedly confirming an Orangebloods.com report that A&M will announce its move to the SEC on August 22nd. This has, reportedly, also come across Austin-area radio as well.

I hope A&M does come to the SEC. They well be the Vanderbilt of the SEC west.
