Georgia's new Nike uniforms are ... something

If you follow the Eye on CFB on Twitter -- and if you don't, why on earth not? -- you saw a Tweet Thursday from a former Georgia volleyball player that described the Bulldogs' new Nike-designed uniforms as "red jersey and pants, black belt, silver helmet."

That seemed awfully unorthodox for a Bulldogs program that's been burned fooling around with uniform tweaks before, but never doubt the Swoosh's ability to amaze, we guess. Because the Bulldogs' "Pro Combat" uniforms were officially released today, and they're every bit that unorthodox and then some:

Yes, Virginia, that is a silver helmet (as opposed to the Dawgs' traditional silver pants). And odd black panels on the shoulders. And a freaking gigantic red stripe on the helmet. And nothing but that one sliver of belt on the front to break up the sea of red from the collar to the knee. We'll make our official reactions short: yeeeeeesh.

Mark Richt said the uniforms do "a great job of trying to capture a lot of the tradition of Georgia football." We're not sure what tradition that is -- unless Nike foresees a loss to Boise State, fulfilling the Bulldogs' tradition of defeats in new uniforms -- but we don't doubt Richt when he also says the players like them.

But unless the Dawgs get the season off to a winning start in the new duds, we're guessing the Georgia faithful are going to be much, much less pleased.

Georgia's new Nike uniforms are ... something

Their new football uniforms make them look like Red Hot sausages running up and down the field.  All their uniforms say "GEORGIA" on the back above the number where their name should be.  People up north will think the whole team is made up of cousins and kinfolk.  The paint job on their helmets makes them look like 1950s Space Cadets.

One word for Geogria's new uniformas from head to toe is FUGLY. Boise States were almost as bad. It really sucks that Nike is ruining tradition. The funny thing is everyone always says "the players love them" ha! Kudos to all the teams that have keep their tradition and continue to do so. Greed is NOT good.

I like 'em, especially considering they're temporary.  Maybe it'll put a fire in their soul (whatever it takes...).  I'd like to see the same style with all silver with maybe a black or red helmet.  For the long haul tho', I still prefer the classic silver britches and red helmets.

Georgia's new Nike uniforms are ... something

Georgia has a contract with Nike for their uniforms and other apparel.  It's not just Georgia deciding to change their uniforms.

Boise State and Georgia will both being wearing the Nike combat uniforms at that game and are only obligated to wear them that one time.

Actually like the look, but would rather see a different color pant. White would look good for the pants.

Richt appears to be ready to try anything, including a blatant disregard for UGA tradition, to change the fortunes of the underachieving Dawgs of the past 5+ years. Shameful...

Georgia's new Nike uniforms are ... something

I must say that I like the Bulldogs' pro combat uniforms. That's one thing that I miss about the Wolverines not being with Nike anymore because Nike seems to like doing certain things "outside of the box" when it comes to College Football uniforms. Don't get me wrong...I like the deal by Michigan/Adidas because of the revenue, but I just miss seeing that "swoosh" emblem on the Maize and Blue uniforms as well as how would the Wolverines' uniform would look like in "pro-combat mode". I do like the "throwback" uniforms that Michigan has for the Michigan/ND game this season.CoolCoolCool

I'd comment, but I'm in no position given the release of "new" Cy-Hawk trophy.  Suffice it to say we have our own "mess" to clean up.
