As the University of Texas-San Antonio prepares to play the first football game in school's history, a lot of the attention being paid to the team right now has to do with the school its head coach used to coach at. Larry Coker spent 12 years coaching at Miami, and won a national title with the Hurricanes as head coach in 2001.

The five years Coker spent as head coach at Miami coincided with the time that Nevin Shapiro claims he was lavishing the team with all sorts of gifts and perks, and while Coker feels bad for what's going on at Miami right now, he seems more concerned about life at UTSA.

“I'm almost more distraught, because I was there for 12 years,” Coker told the San Antonio Express-News. “(It's) not a distraction, because I haven't done anything. But the people there, the players ... it's very hurtful, it really is.”

What Coker didn't do was say whether or not he knew of the things Shapiro was doing at Miami, saying in a report earlier in the week that he knew Shapiro by name only.

You cant change anything now. We all need to learn to forgive and forget. If they cheated, then let's forgive them so we can all get along and have some good games. This coach obviously didnt know what was happening, because Miami was No. #1 in all the polls. How do you expect him to know? He was a victim here.

Larry Coker isn't kidding

Coker was utterly overwhelmed by the job at Miami.  If I would ever believe that a coach was so naive and clueless as to not know what was going on under his nose, it would be Coker.  Pun intended.

These Hurricanes you've seen over the Last 5 years are whats left of Cokers boys. Granted now some are Shannons.
Who are you kidding, most of them are Shannons at this point.

CrmsonTide, Its not a "Win em all or you suck" mentality. Those players, and That record, Were Butch Davis' recruits. These Hurricanes you've seen over the Last 5 years are whats left of Cokers boys. Granted now some are Shannons. Coker had a Wishing Well of talent in his back yard. And, STILL couldn't recruit! And, most of these "allegations" came under Cokers watch. So you tell me. If he would have done All That to Bama, wouldnt YOU be a little salty?!? I thought so.
Butch Davis .... where do I recall that name from? lol Also Erickson , there is plenty that happened at Miami that fell off his watch. I'm not about throwing a guy to the dogs because of a bad season .... others are. If anything, Miami has been anything but an honored institution before the current coach. Hell .... he's still trying to get rid of the mind set everyone has, that it is still Thug U. He's done a great job too.

What were you proud of?  Sure you won a number of Championships, you have a number of players who played or are still playing in the NFL...
...If you're proud of the thugs, and what Shapiro did...speaking of him, you should be pissed off at him, and the kids who took the money...they are th eones who brought the program down.  Sure if the coaches knew, they should've deleted these players from the team over those years, but guess what, the 'U' would've been garbage without that talent.  Clinton Portis, Sean Taylor (God Bless his soul), among many others.  Don't just blame Coker, you need to blame the kids who took the money also.

I blame Bush's Parents, Carroll, and of course Bush.  Bush was going to be rich, all he and his Family had to do was wait.

Um, that's why you have to put references on your job application.  So your future employer knows what went down with your last x amount of years being an employee.  It's called a resume.  That's why they have a little space on there for phone numbers....so they can call and find out if you're a shady d-bag.  If you are running from punishment, or can't handle the heat and take your punishment, or the shame of 105,000 fans booing you, then I say set a tone.  If the NCAA is the farm system for the NFL, which they are, let these young rule breakers know that they will pay for it.  Or just punish the remaining players who are mired in the muck you left behind like the current system does.  This is how real life works for non athletes, right?  You screw up, you face the consequences.

I think Pryor should be grateful he is getting a chance.  If I had broken rules at a past job, and a future employer finds that out while reviewing my information and calling my former employer, you know what my punishment would be?  NOT GETTING A JOB WITH THAT COMPANY THAT I WANT TO WORK FOR!  Get real already.

The NFL punishing Terrell Pryor for something he didn't do while under an NFL Contract (where in the Hell is the ACLU when they are truly needed?) might actually set a precedent for action against Larry Coker.  He is under the auspices of the NCAA.  Terrell Pryor is just some guy that is applying for a job with the NFL.

What if anyone's future employer decided to take the word of a past employer (Let's face facts, College Football is a job.), and punish that "future" employee?  Wouldn't the Labor Board and Civil Courts get involved?

Damn right they would.

Larry, you are as full of **** as a Christmas goose!

How is your new Minor League NFL team working out?  At least you didn't get to injure UTEP or (Thank The Lord) Army.
