Tennessee S Janzen Jackson dismissed from team

Troubled Tennessee defensive back Janzen Jackson has been dismissed from the Volunteers football team, head coach Derek Dooley announced on Wednesday

"Our program has devoted a tremendous amount of energy, resources, support, and care in an effort to help Janzen manage his personal challenges," said Dooley. "I will always be here to help him as a person, but there comes a time when a player's actions preclude him from the privilege of playing for the University of Tennessee football team."

Jackson's five interceptions in 2010 tied for the most on the team and the junior was selected to the All-SEC Second Team. Jackson's road has been a rocky one, but until this announcement it appeared that the former five-star recruit from Louisiana had turned things around. Jackson withdrew from school after last season for what Dooley referred to as "personal issues." After his return was a topic of much debate during spring practice, the school confirmed in July that Jackson had re-enrolled for summer classes.

Less than half of Jackson's teammates from the 2009 recruiting class are still with the program, and now that number dwindles further with Jackson's absence.

No rules at North Alabama??? Who's the school who recruited him, knowing his background? U Tards. Who's the school who kept letting him come back without cracking down on him? U Tards. If...IF he came here, he would straighten up or be gone, just like William Brimfield. None of this wussy "Aw come on Janzen, behave. Please." It'll be "Janzen, you've got one shot to get it right. If you don't, you're gone." That's the way it's done boys. U Tard and the other DIs need to learn some toughness. Now go 3 and 9 this year and wonder if a little toughness before it's too late might help.

Your comment is beyond U Tarded you tard.

If anyone is U Tarded it's Lame Kiffin.  All of his recruits have been dismissed from UT.  Nice judgement of character.  And to think every USC fan has a man crush on the guy.

One to many chances for JJ - great talent,  very poor character.    Well done Dooley.  Cool

Dooley's statement says it all. Tennessee gave Jackson every possible opportunity to try and straighten his life out on and off the field, but it appears that those efforts have failed. It's really an unfortunate situation because this kid has tremendous athletic skills. Dooley's job has been hard enough without having to deal with the numerous head cases that seemed to dominate Lane Kiffin's only recruiting class at Tennessee.

JJ had his chance(s)...now he is leading candidate for bagging supervisor at Winn-Dixie in New Orleans...ke has proven, he is light on top already...no NFL team taking a chance on this head-case...I am all for re-habilitation, but just sayin...

It's yet to be proven that Dooley can coach at more than a mediocre level.   However, he is clearly a disciplinarian and runs a tight ship.   Moreover, this below passage might be the best quote ever issued by a coach in dismissing a player.    Personally,  I will be pulling for Dooley to continue to improve and become a legendary coach like his father.   It's clear that he's a class act, and those are the types of coaches that SHOULD succeed.

From the way this has played out, it sounds like he lied to Coach Dooley also.  It's a shame to see such a talented player waste his potential because he can't stop smoking pot.  I guess that's why they call guys like this "dopes".

Credit Derek Dooley for doing the right thing.  He did everything that he could as a mentor to help this kid.  And he did what he had to do to protect the integrity of UT athletics.
