Earlier this month Texas safety Christian Scott was suspended indefinitely by the team after being arrested for assault. Scott assaulted Jeanne Somers Doyle while she was in the process of repossessing his car, dragging her from the vehicle and throwing her to the ground before speeding away in his car.

Scott pleaded no contest to the charges and has now been reinstated to the team, though he'll be forced to sit out the first three games of the season.

“We’re disappointed any time once of our players makes a poor decision, and Christian understands he made a mistake,” said head coach Mack Brown in a statement. “He has taken responsibility, is accepting the consequences of his actions and has returned to the team. He will be working with the scout team until he is eligible to play.”

Along with missing the team's first three games, Scott has been given two years of deferred adjudication. Which means that he could suffer some serious consequences should he be arrested again during the next two years. He's also been sentenced to 40 hours of community service, will have to attend a stress management course and pay restitution to Doyle and pay for court costs.

I am totally with you! I'm a die hard Horns fan but in no way should he have gotten off that easy. If one of us normal people wolud've done somehting like that we would be going to jail or getting something a lot hasher! I just cant get over the fact that he obviously knew he was behind on payments and I'm sure they tried multiple times to contact him in some way, so he knew they would be repoing the car eventually. Not to mention she probably had paperwork showing she had the right to take the vehicle. Just another athlete who thinks he's above the law and that at certain times the rules dont apply to him. And I'm extremely dissapponited in Mack Brown for allowing him to even come back this season. He should suffer some actual consequences!!

He wouldn't have to worry about the repo

woman if he had gone to that ohio school.  They provide "loaners" while their own cars are getting 3 week repair jobs.  He also would have been able to use his special talent to assualt people on the field, (read:  trying to maim players by choking them in a pile), where such talent is encouraged with a wink and a nod one game suspension, instead of getting suspended multiple games.

He wasn't standing on a street corner waiting for a woman to come by to body slam.  Someone was repossessing his car.  A lawyer could argue that he thought someone was stealign his property.  Plus, I would not be surprised that repo men/women get the same protection under the law while performing their job.  I am not defending the guy's actions, just trying to explain how our legal system works.  I don't think he got off easier because he was an athlete.  Anyone who could afford a decent lawyer probably gets the same.

Nope.  He got a pretty typical sentence for a first time offender in Texas.  He did not get special treatment.

What would happen to a non athlete?  I tell you what, go down to your nearest street corner and wait for a car to come by with a women driving it.  When it stops at the corner, open the door, pull her from the car and body slam her to the ground, get in the car and drive away.  See if all they do is give you a warning and probation.  I don't know where you are from, but here in the deep south, you, me and any other male would be sitting in the jail for a substantial period of time.

I am a Horn's fan, so I am obviously biased.  However, do you really think you should ruin a kids potential career based on one mistake that didn't even land the kid jail time?  What consequences would happen to a non-athlete?  They wouldn't get suspended from school.   They wouldn't get fired from a job unless they missed work.   I think a 3 game suspension is fairly right on.

Wow!!  He must be a REALLY good player!! Assault on a woman? Jeez!!  3 whole games.  Mack Brown is no nonsense. Pulling a woman from a car (first problem was he was irresponsible for the payment) and throwing her to the ground? Driving off? The Caddy wasn't his, and don't tell me he didn't know if was due to be repossesed!!  What a thug!! Good thing she wasn't seriously injured or he might have had to miss a conference game. Man UP Mack?
