Miami head coach Al Golden has named senior Jacory Harris the starting quarterback for the Hurricanes' next game against Ohio State on Sept. 17.

Harris missed the Hurricanes' opener against Maryland while serving a one game suspension for accepted approximately $140 in impermissible benefits from former booster Nevin Shapiro. Sophomore Stephen Morris was named the starter, and completed 19 of 28 passes for 195 with no touchdowns and two interceptions. Following the game, Golden announced that he would re-open the ongoing competition between Morris and Harris for the starting job, one that had lasted since spring practice.

Near the end of fall camp, Golden (along with many UM players) said that the two signal-callers were in a "dead heat." Both quarterbacks received praise for their performance, and their combined scrimmage numbers (individual stats not released by the school) were impressive. But due to the NCAA suspensions, Golden never got a chance to name a starting quarterback from the competition. With Harris in the number one spot on the latest Miami depth chart, it would seem as though the senior would have been the starter against Maryland if he wasn't serving that suspension.

But Harris isn't the only Miami player who will be anxious to get on the field for the first time against Ohio State. Wide receiver Travis Benjamin will be back in his starting spot, and Adwele Ojomo and Marcus Forston should have an immediate impact on a defensive line that looked gassed by the second half against Maryland. All-conference linebacker Sean Spence will be back in the starting lineup, and his impact in the back seven should be felt immediately.

The best thing the Hurricanes have going for them heading into this big-time matchup against the Buckeyes is the extra time to prepare. I imagine that the leadership of these upperclassmen will play a big role in the team's focus on knocking off OSU at home in primetime.

Hearing the news he will be allowed to play is outrageous.  The NCAA is the most hypocritical organization I have ever seen.  This only shows how everyone involved is chasing ratings.  This tells those kids in high school that the NCAA is a pushover and chases ratings more than ensuring everyone is following the rules.  The Ohio State 5 got to play in their bowl game because the NCAA was chasing ratings.  I cannot believe my eyes with the penalties that are being handed down these days.  The early 90’s was a rough time for a lot of programs in college football, it didn’t matter what the violation was there were severe penalties and it cleaned up a lot of the BS in collegiate athletics.  Jacory Harris taking the so called $140 in impermissible benefits is no different than taking $140,000 in impermissible benefits.  He and a lot of others broke the rules, is there any difference is just slightly breaking the rules or blowing them out of the water?  If you broke rules you should have to pay for it, missing one game is a waste of time.

Clearly you haven't watched much of Jacory Harris - he's terrible. If he's Miami's "best player" they may as well give themselves the death penalty. I'd be surprised if any Miami fan is happy to hear Harris is starting.

"No one will be surprised to see Miami crush Osuck, were expecting at least four losses this year from them. Things are not looking good in Columbus!"

Seriously, what a pathetic post.

Harris floats those passes to his recievers like he did last year against the bucks, his recievers will be drilled again. Never saw a qb put his recievers in such a dangerous position as he did last year. Oh, and I'm a Michigan fan

I can safely assume that many Michigan fans are posting on this board....worry about your own crappy team. Who, by the way, has only won 15 times out of their last 38 games.....PATHETIC!!!

As it relates to this game, I think it's another close one between these teams, my prediction: OSU 24 Miami 20

Yep, but don't forget that 2 of the 4 INT came at the expense of WR Travis Benjamin.

The first INT via Benjamin came when he didn't even bother to make a grab at the ball and the pass flew by him into the LB arms playing a level behind him on the route.

The 2nd one Benjamin caused was a bobble pushed right into the LB hand.

Benjamin did have a return for a TD but it was worthless as he set up 2 TDs for Ohio State by himself.

Harris is the better QB.  I would rather see Moore against the Buckeyes and this will be a tough game against the Canes.  No games are easy on the road.  Go Bucks!
