Baylor to the Big East?

Baylor has been one of the most vocal members of the Big 12 in recent days as the school does everything it can to keep the Big 12 together. It's a move that isn't difficult to understand because in all of the conference realignment talk, when it comes to the Big 12, Baylor is one of the few schools whom you don't hear mentioned as possibilities for other BCS conferences.

After all, in the Pac-16 scenario that keeps coming up, while Texas would want to bring Texas Tech west with them, you don't hear anything about the Longhorns being all that concerned about the Bears. As it turns out, however, Baylor may actually have a BCS contingency plan. According to a report by Yahoo's Jason King, Baylor is rather confident that if the Big 12 does dissolve, the school will find a home in the Big East.

“There haven’t been any guarantees,” a source with knowledge of the situation told King. “But [Baylor] feels strongly that that’s what would happen.”

Which is rather interesting to hear if it's indeed true. Like I said, I understand why Baylor wants to keep the Big 12 together, but their method in trying to do so seemed like a bit much. Instead of just stating the obvious, Baylor has been using a lot of rhetoric about preserving the sanctity of college football and the integrity. It's also talked about the best interest of the fans, and worrying about the effects that realignment can have on the states of the schools involved.

Which seems a bit funny to me because I seem to remember Baylor being one of four Texas schools that left SMU, TCU, Houston and Rice behind when they left the now-defunct SWC for the Big 12 when it formed in 1996. I guess it was okay back then.

Now this report about Baylor and the Big East?

Again, I don't begrudge Baylor for finding a safety net. It's what any institution in the Big 12 should be doing right now just in case. But don't try to pretend you're worried about the sanctity of college football and preserving tradition when your actions show that just like everyone else, the thing you're really worried about is yourself.

Baylor to the Big East?

Also, two conference championships during that time in football, but let's just overlook those to make your point.
Might want to go check on that research of yours. I see 2 in a 16 year period, certainly not 2 in 10, and the one they won, was in a five-way tie with a 7-5 record, and guess what? One of those tied teams was TCU! Once again, soooo impressive. Last 10 years, .580 winning percentage. It's not like they were tearing it up or anything. So what was your point lawdog... oh wait, you are a Baylor fan. Your point is that you were lucky to get in because of government.

Baylor to the Big East?

You may be right about Baylor, but at least Tech hasn't been a burden on the Big 12 over the past 10-12 years.

They always go to a bowl, and bring in a little revenue.

I can't say that for Baylor or ATM.
You might want to check up on your stats Coach...

Baylor to the Big East?

Again people...get your facts straight on how many Big XII Titles Baylor has won over all in the conference.

Hmmm...Let's look at the overall Big 12 Title List (inception 1996 for those that are mathematically challenged):

1) Texas with 114
2) A&M with 53
3) Baylor with 42
4) Oklahoma State with 40
5) Oklahoma with 39
6) Kansas with 24
7) Iowa state with 11
8) Texas Tech with 11
9) K-State with 7
10) Missouri with 7

Inclusion of now departed teams:

Nebraska with 72
Colorado with 27

Influence only gets you so far...winning on the athletic field is where it counts. Baylor has not been the best in years past in football, but they have improved tremendously over the last 4 years.

Baylor to the Big East?

Look at how Baylor is acting now to the B12 and how they manipulated the SWC.  Based on classless behavior, they should be blackballed from the Big East.  Even this Jason King (Baylor Grad) is spewing this garbage.

Baylor to the Big East?

TCU at least made it a BCS game AND won. Baylor has won 18 conference games in 16 years in the Big 12 and last season was its first bowl appearance since the SWC days. No thanks.

Baylor to the Big East?

Baylor's contributions to the Big XII since inception:

4 - Times Baylor has finished with an 0-8 conference record since 1996
5 - Victories over Big XII bowl teams since 1996
7 - Times Baylor has won 1 Big XII conference game since 1996
18 - Big XII victories since 1996

Sic 'em Bears!

Baylor to the Big East?

Is anyone else surprised that an extremely right-wing, religious school would preach against what itself practices?  Save the Big-12! And by the way we have been courting the Big-East.  Waco puts the fun in fundamentalism...
