Baylor to the Big East?

Baylor has been one of the most vocal members of the Big 12 in recent days as the school does everything it can to keep the Big 12 together. It's a move that isn't difficult to understand because in all of the conference realignment talk, when it comes to the Big 12, Baylor is one of the few schools whom you don't hear mentioned as possibilities for other BCS conferences.

After all, in the Pac-16 scenario that keeps coming up, while Texas would want to bring Texas Tech west with them, you don't hear anything about the Longhorns being all that concerned about the Bears. As it turns out, however, Baylor may actually have a BCS contingency plan. According to a report by Yahoo's Jason King, Baylor is rather confident that if the Big 12 does dissolve, the school will find a home in the Big East.

“There haven’t been any guarantees,” a source with knowledge of the situation told King. “But [Baylor] feels strongly that that’s what would happen.”

Which is rather interesting to hear if it's indeed true. Like I said, I understand why Baylor wants to keep the Big 12 together, but their method in trying to do so seemed like a bit much. Instead of just stating the obvious, Baylor has been using a lot of rhetoric about preserving the sanctity of college football and the integrity. It's also talked about the best interest of the fans, and worrying about the effects that realignment can have on the states of the schools involved.

Which seems a bit funny to me because I seem to remember Baylor being one of four Texas schools that left SMU, TCU, Houston and Rice behind when they left the now-defunct SWC for the Big 12 when it formed in 1996. I guess it was okay back then.

Now this report about Baylor and the Big East?

Again, I don't begrudge Baylor for finding a safety net. It's what any institution in the Big 12 should be doing right now just in case. But don't try to pretend you're worried about the sanctity of college football and preserving tradition when your actions show that just like everyone else, the thing you're really worried about is yourself.

Baylor to the Big East?

The Big East?  Really?  Does the Big East just plan on adding teams until they control half of the schools in Div 1?  It's getting a little rediculous over there IMO.

Baylor to the Big East?

If the BIG 12 was worrying about staying together, then why don't they just go ahead and look for some teams to join? Don't know why they are sitting around watching teams leave left and right? They need to starting asking schools to come in.

Baylor to the Big East?

psubeerman....put the beer down and go back to school.  Your another one with the Big East is sinking.  The Big East is one of the few to get better through realignment.  TCU...remember.  Now KU, KState....I know bball means nothing in bellefonte....But the Big East is going to last this out.

The Big East was the first to 16 teams in bball and now all of a sudden 16 is the magic number.  Start thinking out of the box.

Your boys may want to come back east.  lol

Baylor to the Big East?

Baylor is just stalling because they know they need to find a AQ Conference as a landing place.  They dont wanna fall to being in the WAC or Mountain West conference.  With Texas AM leavin, everyone else is set on where there going but Baylor.

Baylor to the Big East?

Baylor??  They have a football program??  You'd never have known.  Go to the Big East and watch as the Big East crumbles when the ACC/SEC come calling for thier 16.  Great plan, jump from one sinking ship to another ship sinking slightly less fast.

Baylor to the Big East?

Isn't it interesting that as the super conference talk continues to gain steam the conference that seems to be being left out in the cold is the ACC.  Wasn't it officials from this confernce that didn't think the Big East belonged in the BCS and now it is them that haven't had any impact and nobody's coming to pull teams from them.  Maybe going forward the ACC should look at bringing in Boise State because they may need a team with experience at crashing the BCS party,  TCU and Utah are already taken.  Baylor sees the writing on the wall and wants a spot while there is still room.

Well fortyacres71,  If Richard Nixon was fairly ran out of office for obstruction alone, then Clinton should have been jailed for both obstruction of justice and perjury.  Many, many people have gone to jail for perjury.

Baylor to the Big East?

Texas would never join the Big 10. They don't want their baseball team to have to wear long sleeves in any game under 70 degrees. And Comish Delaney would never put up with their DNA.

And Notre Dame is quite happy where they are.
