UPDATE: Manuel has returned from the locker room. Trickett completed 5 of 8 passes for 62 yards, and set up Dustin Hopkins for a 46-yard field goal to cut the Sooners' lead to 7. The official diagnosis is bruised left shoulder. He is back in pads and on the sideline.
Florida State junior quarterback EJ Manuel has left the game with an apparent shoulder injury. Manuel began favoring his left shoulder after being hit at the end of a six-yard rush near midfield. The Seminoles' leader looked to the sideline after completing a pass on the next play, pointing to his left side. He was replaced to freshman quarterback Clint Trickett, son of offensive line coach Rick Trickett, with just over four minutes remaining in the third quarter.
The hit Manuel sustained came at the hands of Oklahoma linebacker Travis Lewis. Lewis was expected to miss as many as eight games this season recovering from a foot injury he sustained in the offseason. Lewis was a last minute clearance for the Sooners, and has made his presence felt all over the field. It was reported that trainers asked Manuel to raise his left arm, and he was unable to bring it parallel with the ground. He was then escorted to the locker room to get out of his pads and undergo further examination.
