A day after official Board of Regents meetings at Texas and Oklahoma had many believing the Red River rivals would head west, the Pac-12 announced they had other plans regarding membership. The following is the official statement from the Pac-12 regarding conference expansion, in which they state their plans to remain at 12 members.

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- In light of the widespread speculation about potential scenarios for Conference re-alignment, the Pac-12 Presidents and Chancellors have affirmed their decision to remain a 12-team conference. Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott said, “after careful review we have determined that it is in the best interests of our member institutions, student-athletes and fans to remain a 12-team conference. While we have great respect for all of the institutions that have contacted us, and certain expansion proposals were financially attractive, we have a strong conference structure and culture of equality that we are committed to preserve. With new landmark TV agreements and plans to launch our innovative television networks, we are going to focus solely on these great assets, our strong heritage and the bright future in front of us.””

So, maybe UT should try the SEC. They haven't played that card yet. OOPs! Aggies beat them to it. How about UT and Notre Dame just play 12 games against each other in their own conference. Their conference could be called the Too Good For Everybody Else conference.

Pac-12 will not expand in conference realignment

I am stunned by the PACs announcement, especially at this point in time when Texas and Oklahoma have been given permission to leave and Oklahoma State and Texas Tech are meeting today to discuss that option as well. The timing is very upsetting. I am not convinced that they won't expand, despite their announce, as several posts have pointed out the SEC and Texas A&M example, but I am now convinced that it will never accept Texas with their current TV contract. One statement within the PAC 12 announcement clearly implies this to be true: "... we have a strong conference structure and a culture of equality that we are committed to preserve." What more evidence does one need that this contract is causing the PAC to, at least, reject Texas as is, and is probably the motivating factor in the splintering of the Big 12?

THIS is the comment (written by a fan) that should be considered the pulse of today.

The Big 12 is disfunctional because of UT Greed. THe Big 12 may get stuck together because of UT Greed.

If UT agreed to split all revenues equally (LHN would require big changes) they OU, OSU, T Tech would be in the PAC.

UT requiring individual perks, not going to get agreement from the current Pac teams. This prevents OU for an  invite.

I just don't seed UT backing down on all points, and that severly limits the other Big 12 teams options. Now is Mizzu goes to the SEC (Rumored) not sure the Big 12 could survive.

Ladies & Gentlemen, of course this is all "Confusing".  What would you expect, some easy musical chairs transition?  This is about politics and positioning, and when those two items are present, confusion sets in.

When you are dealing with the ambition of betterment, when you are dealing with the avoidance of potential lawsuits, you must know proper rhetoric (ie., talking out of both sides of you mouth).

These Universities and Conferences are dealing with Legal release language that would probably mirror "Obama Care" in its lengthy vague trap language. Oklahoma wasn't "surprised", because they are right in the middle of it and certain strategies must be implemented.

Hang in there folks, this has only just begun.

Wild-Turkey1 - I think you hit the nail on the head and I think this shifts control back from OU to UT. Prior to the announcement OU was in the drivers seat putting demands on UT as it would be Win Win for OU. If UT didn't give them what they wanted the'd just move West to the PAC.

Personally the news really PO's me. I'm sick and tired of such week play out of the PAC and especially my Wildcats. The increased competition would have probably given us a new Coach next year as we (Alum & Fans) are so sick and tired of Mike Stoops and his sideline fits. UG!Yell

Larry Scott must be renegotiating the ginormous TV package he signed. The TV package now has to take into account the Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas and Texas Tech. FOX isn't getting those four teams for free....far from it.

If this is true, and who knows if I had to guess I would think they are just positioning themselves to avoid a lawsuit, this opens the door for a move of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State to the SEC.  For Oklahoma to stay in the BIG 12 it sounds like it is going to take the following:

1.  Beebe will have to resign or be fired.
2.  Texas will have to give up the LHN.
3.  Revenue is going to have to be shared equally between the conference members.

Does anyone see Texas agreeing to all these terms?  I think Texas would be fine sticking in the BIG 12 without Oklahoma and OSU adding a few new members, keeping their automatic qualifier status and keeping all their perks in tack.  As long as Texas wants to the big dog and control things the BIG 12 days are numbered and their are going to be several schools looking for a new home.
