A day after official Board of Regents meetings at Texas and Oklahoma had many believing the Red River rivals would head west, the Pac-12 announced they had other plans regarding membership. The following is the official statement from the Pac-12 regarding conference expansion, in which they state their plans to remain at 12 members.

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- In light of the widespread speculation about potential scenarios for Conference re-alignment, the Pac-12 Presidents and Chancellors have affirmed their decision to remain a 12-team conference. Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott said, “after careful review we have determined that it is in the best interests of our member institutions, student-athletes and fans to remain a 12-team conference. While we have great respect for all of the institutions that have contacted us, and certain expansion proposals were financially attractive, we have a strong conference structure and culture of equality that we are committed to preserve. With new landmark TV agreements and plans to launch our innovative television networks, we are going to focus solely on these great assets, our strong heritage and the bright future in front of us.””

Pac-12 will not expand in conference realignment

I posted this earlier today, and no one believed me. But i'll say it again so you can all understand why this is happening.
Texas WILL NOT join the Pac-12, and here's why.

Texas does NOT want to join the Pac-12. Fair-weather fans, mediocre teams, and less national exposure is not what Texas is looking for.

Texas wants to keep the Big 12 together, and is banking on the Pac-12 not jumping the gun and inviting Oklahoma and Oklahoma State without getting Texas first.

Texas is not excited about letting the Longhorn Network be controlled by the Pac-12, or splitting its revenue portentially between the Pac-12 members.

Trust me, Texas has no intention of joining the Pac-12. And is not going to join the Pac-12. Right now they're doing everything they can to get Oklahoma and Oklahoma State to give the Big 12 another chance, but even IF they leave, which is unlikely without Texas, Texas would NOT leave. They would either join the ACC, or rebuild the Big 12. Trust me. I know this.

Pac-12 will not expand in conference realignment

"Of course, the big thing is that neither Oklahoma nor Texas needs the Pac-12."

A conference with a huge TV contract, rock-solid stability, and a comissioner with boss-sized balls...who needs it?

Pac-12 will not expand in conference realignment

This means that the Big 12 needs to work hard to get TCU from the Big East, Boise from the MWC and maybe another school from the Big East like West Virginina, Louisville or Cincy. This makes them very strong in Football, and would make them extremly strong in Basketball with adding WV and Lousiville. Maybe they should also attempt to court Notre Dame. Just imaging the hype with games of UT vs ND, and OU vs ND.

Pac-12 will not expand in conference realignment

This is awesome.. I have some new found love for the Pac 12.  The fact that now OU, Okie St. & Texas are all on the outside looking in... and the fact they thought they controlled the destiny of the Big 12... this is wonderful.  They thought they had parachoutes made of Pac 12 big bills.  Now they might have to stay w/ the conference that they were trying to destroy.  I hope they make TX lose the Longhorn Network.  And when MU leaves.. the 8 of them can have a nice little circle jerk... barring that the others don't bail on them either.  Cool

Pac-12 will not expand in conference realignment

Pac 12...you hired Scott for a reason.  If he recommended moving forward to have the Presidents veto the idea...that would be a shame. Now you have a chance to add at least Oklahoma and Ok St and you back off saying your ok with only the CO and Utah additions?  That decision just does not make sense.

Pac-12 will not expand in conference realignment

We will eventually find out that the reasone the PAC 12 remained pat was that Texas was unwilling to give up the Longhorn Network. Texas could not dominate the PAC 16 the way it was able to the Big 12. A good television deal for twelve might have been improved by a move to sixteen with Oklahoma and Texas as the anchors, but Texas is too greedy. They may need to join a lesser conference or go independent, but they are in a predicament. They have a good deal for Texas that will not be accepted by a strong conference suchas as the SEC or the PAC 12.

Pac-12 will not expand in conference realignment

Hey Youareanidiot. You're crying because Kansas will be left out of this whole thing and you can't handle the truth. That's the answer my man; refuse to schedule Missouri as if they don't even exist. Come on bro; if the Jayhawks were invited to either the PAC-12, Big 10, or the SEC and got 20 mill in TV revenue every year, they would already been in Santa Fe on the way to California. Sorry, but the boys from Columbia have every advantage and are much more attractive than the evil Jayhawk. I know it sucks, but look at the bright side. A basketball road trip to Cincy and West Virginia would be pretty cool if you can survive.

Pac-12 will not expand in conference realignment

The Big East and Big 12 need to merge, with Texas and Oklahoma involved.  Instant super conference -- a powerhouse in football and basketball, baseball and soccer...16 team football conference; 24 team basketball conference .  Split into an East and West Division for both -- sustains many great rivalries -- lots of great teams in both football and basketball -- big market share.  Keeps the BCS tie ins; heck, even might expand them.  A super conference all the way around -- without leaving anyone behind or rejecting contractual obligations.  And no one is gaining at someone elses expense.  (like the ACC -- a pox on them).  Everyone stands to gain, and no one losses.  It seems so right -- so there's no way it will happen.  Ah, if only...
