A day after official Board of Regents meetings at Texas and Oklahoma had many believing the Red River rivals would head west, the Pac-12 announced they had other plans regarding membership. The following is the official statement from the Pac-12 regarding conference expansion, in which they state their plans to remain at 12 members.

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- In light of the widespread speculation about potential scenarios for Conference re-alignment, the Pac-12 Presidents and Chancellors have affirmed their decision to remain a 12-team conference. Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott said, “after careful review we have determined that it is in the best interests of our member institutions, student-athletes and fans to remain a 12-team conference. While we have great respect for all of the institutions that have contacted us, and certain expansion proposals were financially attractive, we have a strong conference structure and culture of equality that we are committed to preserve. With new landmark TV agreements and plans to launch our innovative television networks, we are going to focus solely on these great assets, our strong heritage and the bright future in front of us.””

Pac-12 will not expand in conference realignment

Bad move not adding at least the OK schools.  The other conferences are going to expand and the Pac will again be in catch-up mode...except the top teams will be committed somewhere else.

Pac-12 will not expand in conference realignment

In light of this, have the Oklahoma to the SEC rumors started yet?

Pac-12 will not expand in conference realignment

Notanidiot,  As a Mizzou alum I too want all the traditional rivalries preserved.  Unfortunately NU and CU are already long gone.   And A&M without as much history will be missed as well.

On that note, my desired outcome is that the B12 be saved and maybe add BYU, TCU and Boise for instance.  If that cant be achieved my hope has been that KU and Mizzou would end up in Big10.  Would still really miss KState, OU and OSU if that were the case.

I believe the Mizzou to the SEC rumor is conditional on B12 demolition so I wouldnt give up yet.  Most of this crap these people(the Unis) are releasing is negotiating anyhow.  Hard to know who or what to believe.

Hang tough and good luck whatever...

Pac-12 will not expand in conference realignment

While I am glad to see the Pac-12 stick it to Texas (if that is what they actually did, only time will tell) that sort of screws up my hopes for BSU.  The whole deal with C-USA is too absurd to even talk about.  We were all hoping the chaos amidst the Big12 would finally pull us into an AQ conference.  For now, it seems, we're back to square one.  Even if the BIG EAST does disolve, the B10, BE, and ACC can snatch up the leftovers still leaving the B12 in tact.  If the B10 wanted to pick up OK and OSU they would have already.  The commisioner of the B12 is going to get fired, Texas is going to play nice, and the conference realignment is done for now.  All we can hope for now is that the BE does collapse, TCU stays in the MWC, and BYU comes back.  The latter will never happen considering the horrible network the MWC has  and the beautiful network BYU now owns.  So we get to claim the 6th bid for 2 years just so all the Non AQ's will shut up for a while.  Come 2014 that will be gone, hopefully are stadium will then be seating 50,000+, and other confereces (Pac-12) will take another look.

Pac-12 will not expand in conference realignment

Sounds a lot like when the SEC said they were going to stay with 12 teams, then less than 3 weeks later they invite Texas A&M. The PAC 12 is making a powerplay to try and act like they don't need Texas or Oklahoma to join the conference so it will seem like those schools need the conference more than the conference needs those schools. All of this crap is bad for college athletics as a whole. 100 year old rivalries are being thrown out the window. I am a Kansas alum. My feelings on this are very strong. I feel that if Missouri wants to go join the SEC, then they are spitting in the face of the remaining members of the Big 12, including Kansas. The KU-Mizzou football game has been played for over 100 hundred years, but if they are not in the same conference anymore, I think Kansas should refuse to play Missouri in all sports. I know there are many other rivalries across the country in jeopardy because of greed. I don't know how everybody else feels about it, but there's my opinion, for whatever it's worth.

Pac-12 will not expand in conference realignment

I read that Larry Scott was in favor of expansion but that the member schools did not like it, and for good reason.

This has been tried before and it did not work.

Pac-12 will not expand in conference realignment

Of course, the big thing is that neither Oklahoma nor Texas needs the Pac-12.

Pac-12 will not expand in conference realignment

PAC 12 rules state no team can have its own TV network. LHN would have to be dissolved. ESPN sues and UT gets stuck with the bill. Not a good idea for UT. OK and OKST and TT just want a fair shake... like UT got.

Pac-12 will not expand in conference realignment

Come to think of it, the SEC did the same thing to Texas A&M, however there is no mention of future expansion in the Pac 12 statement. The SEC at least hinted it would explore the option in the future.
